cqan someone please explain basically how this works?!? :?:

it sets up a 'geofence' around your bus and if the bus moves outside the zone the sim sends GPS coordinates to your mobile pinpointing where the bus is, if the GPS doesn't work (ie. in a garage) then it can use GSM mobile masts but not with the same accuracy.

You can input the co-ordinates into a map program this one i think is optimised to google maps. I have google maps on my android phone so could use it as a mobile tracker to find/locate and kick the s**t out of the thieves :D

you can send a ping at anytime using your mobile to ask it where the bus is. there are a shed load other functions not sure if they are on this one where its hooked into an ignition relay and can remotely shut the engine down.

The really cool shit is you can listen to the thieves as there is a built in mic that sends to your mobile lol

How does it work?

It uses GPS satellite signals to trace your vehicle. It can get your vehicle's real time precise position from the GPS satellites, and GSM sends the position information to your phone or the positioning platform.

With the position information, you can see the exact location on Google map or Google earth.Or,you can watch history and live work status on the positioning platform. You can choose the Positioning Platform in your country by yourself .

More Value Functions:

Cut off oil and circuit. If you find that your vehicle is stolen, or left your authorized area, you can send SMS to cut off the oil and circuits, so that vehicle stopped running. This means Remote Controlling Oil and Circuit.
Live listening. In anywhere and anytime, call the phone number in the unit, when it connects, you can live listening the sound around 5 meter of your vehicle. This means Remote Monitoring.
Overspeed Alert: When your vehicle is overspeed, the unit will send the overspeed alert to your authorized GSM number.
Anti-theft: Compatible with the original anti-theft alarm:It will send SMS alarm after your orginal anti-theft alarm warning.
Triggering Emergency Alarm: When there is a emergency happened on the vehicle, you can put on the button and the installed unit will send out alarm to your authorized numbers.
Live tracker: You can set up auto track by SMS or online positioning platform.

Why you need GPS vehicle tracker?

Personal :
1.You can control your vehicle in anywhere and anytime. It's keep your vehicle in more safe.
2.Do you want to know you wife/husband is telling lies? You can track her/his car by SMS or online positioning platform. Even, you can monitor it.
3.Someone borrow your vehicle,do not worry, you can track it and keep your vehicle under your control.
4. If unfortunately, your car is stolen, you can send SMS to cut off oil and circuit, stop running, and find the accurate position, and get back your vehicle soon.

thanks for that johnny.... thats cleared it up a bit for me
so the sim card you need to buy... you stick that in the tracker in the bus?!? and taht contacts your personal phone?!?

Can you add me to the group buy list too please :) There are so many going missing this year its scary :( I was wondering if you can use the sim in your normal phone? or is that a silly question

Also does it come with a sticker saying its installed? would that stop scum trying to rob it or alert them that its there so they can try to find it?

Interested to hear how the test is going :)

bog standard sim card you can purchase the cheapest one from asda i think for around a quid. it will need topping up now and again, but a £10 every few months is cheap in comparrison to trying to replace the irreplaceable.\

Personally i wouldn't want a sticker i'd love to catch them by surprise and dish out some summary punishment :fighting0038: .

I know what you mean Johhny I'd feel like taking revenge for everyone who has had theirs stolen

I don't quite get it with the sim. why cant you use your own thats in your mobile?

You can get sim cards free. They are always giving them away.
You wouldn't be able to use yr own sim card from yr phone because the sim has to stay in the unit for the unit to work. Bit tricky to make phonecalls if yr own sim is in the bus :)

Oh I get it now lol I think? So how do you send a text from it so it stays registered? Do you have to take it out once a month and put it in your phone? sorry for being thick but I am a woman :D

Send a text to it so that it responds would be the simplest, but it would be cheaper to take the sim out and put it in your phone ;)

you need a sim i the GPS unit, its needs to have a gsm sim to send message to your mobile (like mobile to mobile)

so regardless of your own mobile you will need a separate sim for the tracker.

not sure how araon is getting on with his test - araon if you need to test working in a container I'm sure Tim at RHR could assist?

there is one that maplins and CPC sell - it is dearer and I can't see anywhere where it can interface into fuel cutoffs and alarms

but in the interest of public knowledge

http://cpc.farnell.com/jsp/level5/module.jsp?moduleId=cpc/551189.xml" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; £105 inc and then the hardwire for charging. I also wondered if a small household alarm battery could be used to extend the operation of the unit, as if the main battery was removed - it'd die fairly quickly I would think especially if it was trying to locate a satelite?

I would also be very up for a group buy should the units prove their worth....I was intending to buy one of the above.

Range is obviously important, but features too need to be tested for the practical benefits. And the battery life in real working conditions.

*waiting patiently smiley*

Been a busy boy sadly at work and not too much on either van (had to knuckle down and keep myself out of trouble at work following a little incident at work last year involving me my boss a few choice words and the two brothers lefty and righty ;) ) quite suprised how HR took it only my second formal for this company.... anyways hopefully I'll get onto it friday.....

I was chatting with a fella who owns a fleet about this and he was telling me the only trouble with sim card ones is they can go out of range of the network, same as your mobile can in certain areas and he doubted they would work in a container? Best option is a radio one, but v expensive :(

I have been lucky, my brother says if I ever get my bus MOT'd and insured he will buy me one for about £300 :)

Also, I have a contact that *MAY* be able to supply UK designed and manufactured trackers at a reasonable price - I'll let you guys know ASAP if I do, currently just negotiating with them.

Done.

I am watching these threads with interest as a potential purchaser.

What i am interested in, is if the unit can set up a "geofence" quickly if you go out for the day. So when you park up at the beach for instance it sets up a new geofence so you are alerted of that new location instead of your home.

I have just read some stuff about the GPS system failing this year ...

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/worldnews/article-1184550/GPS-satellite-close-breakdown-fail-2010--leading-motorists-straight-trouble.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; google it if you don't believe the Daily Mail lol

Just thought its worth thinking about, makes me lean more towards the Tracker systems, as much as I can't afford that much outlay, I can't afford to lose my bus more :)

trackers and car gps systems are just a very small fraction of the GPS satellites usage. There is no way on earth they will let the systems fail as things like shipping and national security which use the same satellites would be in serious diffs. Would have worse implications than the Y2K bug if it did happen. i think in some ways it will be the same, just the DM scaremongering again.

Ah the old GPS switch off story again

no its not going to be dropped, the american military have recently released restrictions to its useage and its unlikely to be switched off for a good number of years having recently banged up a few more replacement sats and I believe they now have 6 sat in the sky waiting to drop into circulation....

they have even withdrawn the likelyhood of it being encryted for solely military useage in the future (they always had the ability to remove it from general access)....

the russians have an interesting version as do the europeans in the wings but there is too much in the business world that relies heavily on the timing source that the GPS network provides....hell things like the rail infrastructure, internet, shipping, search and rescue etc is reliant on the timing signals ....

I read it on the 'Tracker' website first then various other things on a google search, thought I would put the Daily Mail one up for credibility

I still think I will fork out for the Tracker system though it does look pretty good and if I can pay to have less grey hairs from worrying alls good :D I have come across a fella that fits the 'good' ones maybe he can do a group buy :D

I'm sure the tracker systems use GPS Satellites as well as triangulation via GSM is really inaccurate? just a thought.
