I've just removed the unit from the old tank and cleaned it - the float moves up and down fine and the resistor wire is in tact - if not a little loose, but I'm not sure the easiest way to test them to see if a current will still get through the old solder joints ? Don't really want to wait until the whole thing is back in place to find is doesn't work!! Any advise welcome.

P.S - Anyone know if you can get replacements - The unit is the type with the float inside an aluminium tube.

I just bought one from Just Kampers at £39 trade.

The last one I got from Custom & Commercial at £30. Both were the same.

If in doubt, fit anew one. It is an arse to change them! I did one last Thursday...

I managed to clean mine up and test it.I cleaned up the resistor wire with wire wool and tighten the float connection. Then made sure that the float could move up and down easily and wasn't punctured. Then test it with an ohms meter to make sure it has no dead spots.
But replacing is easier.
