Fuel tank restoration

Hey guys,

I want to derust my fuel tank, and am looking for tips to remove the little filter sticking into the tank from the outlet where the outlet elbow screws to. Does this come out and how?

Has anybody else done this? Any tips?

Hi Andy,
It should just come out when you unscrew the outlet. If it does not then as you are stripping the tank, you may be able to tip it out the filler neck.

I've just taken mine off to do the exact same job as you.
It was very rusty around the thread and took a lot of careful winding with lashings of WD40!

I've done a couple of them now, my 71 had a small filter inside from memory, but this one just had a rusty bit of pipe with a small flange half way along.

I'll get some photos early next week and post them up.

I don't know what I'm going to do to get rid of all the internal surface rust?
Any thoughts?
