My gear stick has a missing ball pin on the end. I was considering a new on as JK below. Any good or do you know where I can buy a pin and how to repair?

Cheers

how I'd do it-
Measure the OD of the pin, or get someone else to do it if your pin isn't complete enough. If you nag me about it I've got one in the shed.

buy a length of mild steel rod off ebay that diameter, shouldn't be more than a quid or so. I have a feeling it's something like 8mm.
Run a tap down it about a centimetre long, drill a hole in the ball the correct diameter with a drill press and pop a die in that.
Cut the little rod to length and round of the end, screw it into the ball with some loktite and a pair of mole grips.

Thanks for the suggestion but the pin is sprung loaded. I thought it was fixed until I looked into it.

I have a couple of OG early bay gear sticks/base pieces if you need anything.....

Depends how quick you can get it to me. I can't wait more than a week so shipping from Norway is not an option and it would need to be tracked.

Sorry dude, they are still in norway......

I will have my "Stock" in the UK after the 19th of December if you still need one.....

Sorry :)

OK thanks. Need one ASAP to get the thing running.

Could you salvage anything from this...

Can can have it for the cost of postage or collect - (the gate to prevent going into reverse is dodgy - been bodge repaired - but the rest of it should be OK and I used it as it is for over a year....

Not sure if it's any help at all or if you have access to the right equipment, but I recently had to replace mine due to it being worn flat and having loads of side to side play in it. One of our techs at work kindly turned down a normal M6 stainless bolt on the lathe to replicate the pin and it is working fine for me.

What I am interested in is how the spring 'works' - when I first took mine apart, the pin was pushed right into the gaearstick so effectively the spring was fully compressed and wedged itself tight. Obviously this means that the spring isn't actually doing anything. I have put it back this way also, but am now wondering if the spring should be allowed to 'spring' and that it actually serves some purpose by not being fixed in place rigidly? Not sure if that makes sense...

I've got a RHD one you can have, complete with base plate, etc?
I know that the thing leans a different direction (they are angled towards the driver) but I don't know if you can pull it apart at all?

Thinking about it... I am assuming it is RHD. But I only bought it for the knob, so I don't think I ever checked. Will dig it out tomorrow and if it's a lefty, it's yours.

Moseley. I believe it's so it's held tight in the socket to stop rattling and make it positive

Ta, I will have to give it a tap when I'm next under the bus to make it springy again!

Hi Kev,
It must have grown legs as it wasn't where I thought it should be. I'll have another scout this evening for you.
