"George meets a couple turning an original VW campervan in their home for a new life on the road."

http://www.channel4.com/tv-listings/daily/2014/07/03#C4_20:00

Caught a quick glimpse of the end credits for this trailer last night. George seemed amazed they'd created a lifting roof to transform their van in to a camper! From what I saw, it was just a Dormobile roof! Will be watching to see what 'amazing space' is produced at the end of the show.

Yeah saw that, wow the roof lifts up! What's your bet he gets into their bed to try it out? Great program though, let's see how much they spent on a DIY job.

Well, no, he didn't quite get in to their bed, but yes, it was a Dormy, and...WTF...how much?

You've got to love this programme though. :D

Only caught the end but did record it. Will take a look tonight. Was definitely a Martin Walker roof but what was the interior conversion originally?

Love the programme but can only watch on a recording with fast forward through the endless repetition. Cheap tv that way I guess, four programmes rapidly become six!

Why put LHD cargo doors on a RHD (or at least fill out the handle recess!!!)

Other than that I like what what they did. But if George says Purist again........,

Just finished watching it. £48,000 for something they'll travel four months out of the year in? Why do I not think so?

Lovely bus though (prefer an earlybay westy :p )

For some reason she really annoyed me. I can't put my finger on it but I think I'd end up duct taping her mouth closed.
Both designers, working in the rat race. Sell their house and chuck 48k at a late splitty.... Oh dear, the heart really did rule the head.
At least he did put some strengtheners in after cutting out the bulkhead.
But £48k.... Come on.. Were the wheels made from pure unobtainium?

Have to say it annoyed the hell out of me because in resto terms and it was nothing special, dont get me wrong it was a nice resto but a bit like our bus just blends into the crowd, I think for £48K I would want something more.

Also what amazed me is no mention was made that this isnt their only split, they own the pink & white striped high top Ice Cream van that would have been at Camperjam at the weekend, so hardly new to the scene and thats the catering business they run that was glossed over very quickly in the programme.

I have nothing against the couple and dont know them so this isnt a go at them, more the programme makers.

I like George Clarke and the programme but covering this just didnt do it for me, it was the resto of a Dormobile Split?, they didnt create something spectactular out of mud/wood/containers or anything, it already existed in the form and they restored it.

Just the opinion of a grumpy old bugger I suppose

Am I the only one who can't stand George Clarke?
I used to be able to tolerate the show because I was interested in the architecture and ideas but George Clarke and what Mike has already mentioned about how they've really stretched it in to an hour long programme is just too much.
Doesn't sound like I missed much by not watching this episode.

As Graham L says, the bus just didn't fit with the general theme of the show. It looked out of place amongst the houses built of junk and/or rolled up sausages full of *****.

I have to keep reminding myself that it is just light harmless entertainment designed to attract advertising revenue, it isn't the answer to the meaning of life.

Or is it?

I was actually stood on a balcony with George Clark on Saturday. I don't know who he was, but my wife was really chuffed ... and ended up with a bunch of photos for her Facebook feed

don't mind george myself, but various items are not shown as they actuall are the guy a couple of weeks ago who did the motorcross and renovated a old coach so "he could take his friends away", if you noticed on the side there was a web address on the final shots. had a look and he rents it out for corporate events etc.

so they can spin a peice to fit whatever.

I finally got to watch this programme. I didnt dislike the van in its final state but as GrahamL said, it wasn't any great creation, just a restored/re-made van. It made me laugh when George was looking at the engine like it was made from magic 'How do they even do that?'
I guess the money is whats to be expected when all the work is farmed out.

Some fuss was being made about the bulkhead being cut out etc, but the van looked to be in a poor state to begin with so its another old bus saved and now being used, so its all good, and if a bulkhead can be cut out, it can be replaced if anyone was so inclined.

Always nice to see a bus on the telly, either way 8)

The couple on there were at Camperjam selling ice cream from another splitty, they said they haven't used it much and it need the carbs dialling in. But seemed really nice couple who've embraced the VW scene and it's also providing them with some income!!!

I love the bulkheads in splits, and you can create the dining room table thing in the back if that's your thing. The furniture was really nice I thought, interested to know who done it. But knowing they spent 48K makes me feel better. She was nuts, anything that went bad during the restoration must have been a right drama. It was going to be nothing short of perfect for her.
