Hi all,
I have had a continuing problem with my cab door locks since I bought my '71 bay. I have noticed that the doors do not shut flush with the body of the van unless I really really REALLY SLAM the door shut. I usually push the locking mechanism (next to the door realease) to lock the door and close it gently, when I do this the door is not flush with the body but means that I can usually unlock the door with no poblem. However, If I slam the door shut (with some force!) I have to rotate the key back and forth in the lock for some considerable time to open it until it eventually unlocks.

However, there are occasions when I push the locking mechanism and slam the door shut (hard) and I am stillable to open the door with a few presses of the handle release button (on the outside).....what is going on, I am completely flummoxed!

Was hoping one of you technical guys out there may be able to offer a solution...I have been told to swap my nasty cheap door seals (which came with the van) for some luvely soft ones. Will these end all my locking and unlocking woes.........? :(

just fitted two good used door seals to mine as doors would not close flush with new genuine vdub BRAZIL (crap :!: )seals ,has some one fitted new wheel arches ,mine not welded in aline to bottom off A post seal gap to tight :( you could take seal off and check catch adjustment not to tight, that will make your eyes water

Well nice, squidgy, and very expensive door seals helped mine a lot. I got the Status ones and they were infinitely better than the cheaper ones.

Mind you, I never lock the doors before slamming shut.... memories of a long wait to retrieve the keys from inside my locked Allegro (yes, I know, but it was cheap....)

Nick

Nowt wrong with allegro, I had a vanden plas model as a student...!....should I be ashamed of that

Thanks for the advice, you are the second person who has recommended status door seals, I'll look them up.
Cheers
Sean :)

Both Bays I have owned have had similar problems, even with original seals.

It is an adjustment issue that I haven't worked out how to fix yet :|
