hi guys, i need to adjust my handbrake as it's only working on one side and the MOT man wasnt very happy!

any tips or how too's would be very helpful as I have never done this before.

Cheers

Al

First make sure the adjusters on the cylinders are right. If they are the rear brakes will not be flagged in the MOT.

Then you can adjust the handbrake cable from in the cab, lift the boot at the bottom of the handbrake and you will see the 10mm nuts. Just slacken the first nut and tighten until both cables pull evenly then tighten back up.

They could have done it at the garage in 2 minutes

thanks dude, when you say adjusters on the cylinders do they have to be the same on both sides? haven't taken a look yet. A friend told me the adjuster in the cab was fully adjusted so it cant be that?

I'm told i need to jack the back up like you said check the adjusters? it's the check bit im having trouble visualising

Jack back of van up, wind pads out using star adjuster till you feel the pads lightly dragging on the drum (you may need to push the brake peddle down a couple of times to center the pads), then back off one click.

Once you have done this both sides you can start adjusting the cables under rubber boot in cab, adjust these till the had brake comes out about 6 click.

Jobs a goodun.
