I need to sort my handbrake. Screws under boot in cab slackened off and looked through the hole in rear backing plate but I can't see the adjuster in there. Just looks to me like the brake pad I can see. Pumped brake pedal to centralise but nothing changes, still can't see adjuster, anyone able to offer help on this? Also tried undoing the rear wheel nut to have a look in there but it ain't budging. Any ideas on undoing this too? Many thanks in advance. The bus is a '70 Westy.

if your '70 is the same as my '72 the adjustment is under the cab floor below the lever , there is a cross bar that both cables are attached to by a threaded section on the end of the cable and a nut, pull the handbrake on 5 or 6 clicks then adjust the cables taking out the slack and ensuring that the cross bar is parallel to the front of the bus, this should give you a good starting point to adjust the brake shoes at the drums and fine tune if needed.

Buy yourself a Haynes manual and adjust the rear brakes NOT the handbrake cables! Otherwise the cables will be too tight and trying to hold the shoes closer to the drum. The adjusters are not easy to see - Haynes tells you how.
