I'm figuring a new OG perforated style headliner for my bus will be maybe about £200, but any ideas how much I'd be looking at to have it professionally fitted?

It's a deluxe so it's the sides/around the windows too. Do the headliners you buy over the counter include these bits?

Can the headliner be fitted without removing the windows? (some of the rubbers are OG and I'd prefer not to disturb/replace them as the chrome trim and quarterlights may not go back just as VW intended plus I want to keep costs down!).

Finally can anybody recommend a good trimmer to fit this in the Kent/ Sussex/ S.Essex area?

Have a look at my article in Camper & Commercial (last but 1 issue I think) if you are fitting it yourself - I had mine done a Bromsgrove Autotrimmers and they are fab and resonable too!!

The windows need to come out - have a word with Bromsgrove though as you have the chrome inserts and mine did not

The headlining pack does not include the material down to the bottom - that is extra.

If you want to pm me I will send some finished pictures if that helps.

Thanks. KK = Karmann Konnection, right?

I just checked out Bromsgrove's website. Their work looks fantastic but they're about 200 miles away!

Was looking for somewhere a little closer to supply and fit. I'm in Kent.

Thanks Aaron. Looks like they do good work but quoted me £500 minimum to replace the headliner. So I've been thinking about cheaper solutions...

After seeing Carole's and EgoTrippin's threads on fitting a birch ply headliner I am considering this option. Someone on the Samba said they thought some bays had the "J" channels that hold the ply in place already tack welded along the side of the bus above the windows "as standard" from the factory but this can't be seen under the headliner so I can't check til I rip mine out.

Does anybody know if this is true, or is it only particular models? If so I won't need to source the Westfalia "J" channels (or substitute aluminium channels).

Also, the liner stuck to the side of the bus around the windows and in front of the rear hatch: I'll have to leave this in place (don't think I'd ever get the glue off for one thing) but I am considering spraying it with white Vinylcote. Has anyone used this on their headliner? Is it any good?

Finally, does anyone know where I could get hold of a template for the front edge of the ply? (above the sunvisors/behind the windscreen). I've seen photos and it looks like it's got a few curves in it. How is that front edge held in place?

Finally, will I still be able to retain my 2 regular interior lights?

Cheers all. Sorry for so many questions. Maybe I should be posting in the technical forum... :)

£500 including the headliner sounds about right .....

there is a channel along the upper edge though it is not as decorative wether the ply will sit behind it ?

but youll see when the liner comes out...

Why not make/fit your own? My adopted gran has a sewing machine and can stitch vinyl. All I do is pull off the old one, make a template, and mark stitch lines. She stitches where marked and I have a better than aftermarket headlining for about 30 quid. Talk to Martrim in the UK about vinyl optons. It really is not that difficult to make/fit. The window rubbers may want replacing if old and inflexible, as they will leak/crack when re-fitted otherwise.

I need to do something about my headlining as the cab and the rear section have been joined just above the walkthrough (is this normal)
Does a headliner go from front to back in 1 peice?
I'm tempted to ask my mate who (runs a flooring company) about glueing some carpet or vinyl straight to the roof.

Evenin' all

Have a look at the link below, if that doesn't work then search for 'help with headliner'

I got my liner from DB Cartrim, about £120 a year or so ago N.B. it wasn't perforated.

Now I'm not gonna say that they're easy to fit cos they're not, but with a little thinking, plenty of bulldog clips, lots of heat and patience they are definitely do-able. Have a go and save y' self some hard earned.

Cheers

Its fiddly and you will curse alot but you can do it yourself, if you want to do it around the windows they will need to come out as with the windscreen..... Cutting around the rear hatch stays was my worst moment. A friend will help when you pull the headliner taught though.

Got my previous preforated headliner from Heritage, was good quality and had enough spare to do the sides.

Good luck with the project ........ remember prefection takes time?
