i recently typed this up for someone on the furum,he used this as a guide and came back to me saying i should sell it,so i thought id pop it in hear.it might come in use again for someone else

this is not set in stone but ive been doing the job 15 years and find this the easyest way.(there are loads of diff ways feel free to add to this)

il try, hard to exsplain on hear, but the string round the glass starting about 2" up from the bottom corner, make a loop in the same place the oposite side.

you can do this solo but easy with 2,

spray some water round the apature(not needed but makes it easyer )

now lay the glass in place

both sit in front one each side

put one arm out the door and pull screen in to wards you

key part make sure its central

now pull the string round the bottom while keeping presure on glass.about 9"(same both sides)now come up the sides and round the top.

DONT WORRY IF THE SIDES MISS AT THIS POINT,YOU CAN HOOK THEM IN LATER

then work your way across top and bottom(may need some presure from outside)

all the time try and keep the rubber on the outside lipped, not sat in
once the sides look like they will lip just hook them out

slaping it in is a very good way but a novice will usually break it ,lol

never push where the strig is,and never hit where it is not liped

onestly this is usually no more than a 10 min job unless the front pannel is on wrong, lol

hope this helps, let me no how you get on.

any more info just ask bud

oh

some people will say to use wd40,washing up liquid and various other lubes, this is not nessaseraly wrong. the only prob with these are as well as helping the screen go in ,it can allso make it slide out while fitting and make it harder to get in

Good one, the rest of the glass in a van is similar.

For lube, avoid washing up liquis as it contains salt, and Waxoyl contains white spirit - no good for rubber ;) Seriously, KY jelly is a good option as its harmless to the metal or the seal.

I recently assisted in a fit of a genuine screen in an unwelded van and it was a nightmare. We blamed a nasty repro seal ..... evry aspect has an effect.

i recently did two screens in a week one was with a genuine Vw seal and the screen flew in took ten minutes Max ......The 2nd was a ***** repro rubber and it took 5 of us 40 mins to get the fooker in I kid you Not

Thanks mate - usefull!
I'd NEVER use washing up liquid - it contains salt and if theres one lace you don't want to put salt in its under the rubbers where it can eat away at your tin without detection!

Strongy i am right in thinking this is your job ? How much should i expect to pay a screen fitter to change the seal,in my front screen , you know - for cash  As i will be getting this done soon and dont wanna get ripped off Cheers :D

£60 tops

we would prob charge £40 ish bit more if deluxe

just remember tho most places wont garantee the old screen cracking while fitting, they do go britle if there laminated.shouldent be a prob 99% of the time but they will prob tell you this when you go to have it done

Any advice for getting one out!
Mines got a 3" crack in bottom corner, will it fail MOT?
Also any one got a spare?
Cheers Paul. :D

Dont think it will fail Paul as think it has to be in drivers eye view , I think

Cheers Grazy, may still have to have it out, as few rust bubbles along bottom edge. :(
So, any advice on how to remove it without breaking it would be handy :D

if the damage is bigger than 50mm it should fail.(even if its outside the swept area)

to get a cracked screen out without making it worse will be hard work,

the best way to get it out is sit on the pasanger seat stick your foot on the top left corner and apply presure,if its an old rubber it will just pop straight out,if its a good rubber you will need to push the rubber round the apature with a dibber(screwdriver will do)a dibber is just a screwdriver without sharp edges so it dosent mark the rubber.

Strongy If your changing the rubbers anyway cant you just cut them out, and is it the same on the sides if you want to save rubbers just kick well you know , would it be an idea to go round the edge with a dibber and loob before kicking or not bother, cheers Frankie.

ye ,if the rubbers are shafted just cut them, all the glass is fited using the same technique.screen is laminated tho so will brake about 10 times easyer, check where the kite mark is,it will say tougthend or laminated
