as the topic title says anyone an idea how to remove a new* coat of spraypaint without doing too much harm to the original 70ies paint. (* at the beginning of this century )
My doors were shrouded in ral 3000 with the arms of the municipality where the bus did service. But at the beginning of this century a un known culture barbarian sprayed it with a wrong color red.
The paint of one door is now damaged by some kind of shit from a anabolic bird so i was thinking what's there to loose?

Depends what it was sprayed with.

Cellulose and spay can paint can be wiped off using cellulose thinners which will not attack the original two pack paint.(long job though)

If its been spayed with two pack then your left with sanding or stripping it all off to the metal with paint stripper.

I wouldn't advise putting celly thinners on 2 pack. I think your safest option is 2000 grit wet flatting, taking your time and then buffing up afterwards Going to be a long slow boring process with lots of potential for burning through to primer.

The question is, why was the door repainted? There might be a spot repair lurking somewhere?

I don't think so, both doors are re-painted with the same wrong color and they are the only parts in that color
Spot repairs where done in a different way

i'm trying to do the same thing to get back to the original red underneath, the problem i found was that i sanded through the 'new paint' ok then through a really thick layer of primer to find that the original paint had been sanded right back in preparation for the new, this beacame apparent even when there was still a very thin layer of the primer still left on.the original ral3000 was painted over a white base so now i have almost completely white doors
