Ideally you should get a switch removing tool however failing that you can use thin ended long nose pliers - but be very careful you dont slip.
Depending on the switch type to be removed you should remove the switch head by unscrewing it, then use the pliers in the two notches on the silver disk that holds the switch into the dash - can also be useful to try and turn the switch body behind the dash (but be careful not to break anything off).
