how to stop rocker covers from leaking......

Having trouble with the gaskets on the rocker covers,they keep leaking oil all over the exchangers.
No matter what i do,clean both edges,apply vaseline/oil to edges they leak,put gasket in water after cleaning they leak,change the position of bail i.e. the angle points down hill they leak. :evil: :evil:

What the feck are you suppose to do to stop em leaking,use gasket sealant???

Are they OG sharky? Where are you getting your cork gasket from?

og covers and the cork gaskets are from machine7.

Without the bales on and pushing on the centre of the rocker cover, do they feel nicely positioned with no wobble or jiggle?

they seem to fit nice i.e. locate where they should but when i changed the oil and checked the valve clearances (running engine in) i put new gaskets in because old ones were slightly damaged,to be fair i was gonna reuse them but the book states new gaskets everytime so i did and the buggers wont stop leaking for love nor money. :? :roll: :evil:
i cleaned both edges and seated new one with some fresh oil.
at this rate i wont need to do a final oil change at 500 miles running 'cause there wont be any left in :lol: :lol:

was thinking of gasket compound but the first ones were not bedded on with them so why should i do these??

i use hylomar blue on rocker gaskets

as i had same on my bus

is good ok now

no leakings

Just kampers do some good neoprene ones they work a treat, instead of the standard cork ones

mine used to leak a bit . i now tend to give them a little tap all the way round with a small hammer with a final tap upward and towards the rear of the bus . have never leaked since adopting this method

I use axle grease on both sides of the cork gaskets. Vaseline is no good as it melts as soon as it mixes with oil. Original rocker covers, cleaned, grease packed around the inside of the lip, grease both sides of the gasket, offer up and wiggle around, clipped in........no leaks using this method for years

Never had rocker covers leak on any bus, just use OG covers, bail arms and good quality spongy cork gaskets.
Don't fit the skinny cheap ones as they're not thick enough for the bail arms to provide enough tension.

are you sure its not your pushrod tubes...i thought i had a leaky rocker but turned out to be a tube and the oil looked like it was dripping from the rocker...just a thought

Perhaps new bale clips - but take care... They all seem a bit different. I had some from GSF that were so tight they destroyed the cups on the sides of the cylinder heads when I undid them. Not helpful. But I've had others from GSF that have been fine. Which is what I have now stuck with (having rebuilt the cups with liquid metal)

Mines were leaking the other day. Put Hylomar on and no probs so far.
