Just had the registration documents back from DVLA for my 68 Westy today and I was really surprised that they issued me with an E plate for a September '67 bus.

How many other EB's are out there with age related E plates?

Cheers

Matt

E plate, that's strange :? Their issue dates are 1 jan 1967 til 31st July 1967 8)

That's what I thought. Must be running out of F's in Norfolk!

If a van is imported and you don't provide evidence of it's manufacture date, the DVLA will only register your van as of the first of January of the year your van was built according to it's chassis number and the V5 will in this instance be recorded as 01.01.67.
If you provide evidence ie a VW museum birth certificate of when your bus was manufactured they will provide you with the correct F age related plate.

I only know because I bought a 71 model which had been registered on an H plate and the V5 showed 01.01.70 which I knew was incorrect because it was a 71 model and I had American registration papers from 1971. Bought a birth certificate which established it was built in October 1970, took this to a very nice lady at my local DVLA office who explained the above DVLA procedures to me and within 10 minutes I walked away with my new correct J plate and updated MOT certificate.
Hope this helps :D

Thanks for the explanation, that makes perfect sense.

Interestingly, I offered the birth certificate but DVLA were only interested in the US title. Waste of £50 that was!

I'm happy with an E plate to be honest, I was just happy that it was much less hassle this time around than it was last time I registered a bus. I reckon I was in the office for less than 15 minutes, which has to be a bonus!

If you ever want an F plate bring your V5, MOT, insurance and birth certificate to Newcastle and Ill take you to my local DVLA office, sorted :D

E plates rock!!!!
i gave all the relevant info including build date (25 Aug '67) and STILL got an 'E'
and then a month or so later my mates registered theirs (21 Aug '67) and got one too!
they run concurrently too 8)

welcome to the early early bay club  ;) :D
