So as mentioned before I'm considering changing my bus due to my boys getting bigger and at the mo I have a tin top. Thinking pop top westy. I'm an early bay guy through n through but have realised the late bay rear hindged westys are really good for family's !
So I need an early bay with a rear hindge pop top. Well little do I know but I didn't think they existed
I just found this.

Is this a early bay tin top conversion with a late pop top ?

Probably more likely to be a sunroof or westy, not a tin top.

Roofs with holes in them have extra strengthening in place that a tin top lacks.

as said, it's more than likely a sunroof bus with a late roof, the front hinge was the only option on an early, that roof has been retro fitted - anything is possible the roof itself is the same on all bays just depends on your fabrication skills.

Sits nice on there.
Could be done (as sead) with a sunroof bus. All strengthening already fitted.
Unless of course you fancy paying road tax?

Why not go for a small vintage caravan like an Eriba? Then you get to keep your cool looking panel 8)
Just an idea,

Earlies were never fitted with rear hinged roofs and the actual roof on a late bay westy is completely different to an early westy, the profile is shallower to allow for more space for the continental roof bed etc. Not sure how they've done that one in the picture?

I had a similar dilemma when I was thinking of getting bus. I really wanted a pop top westy. Thinking that with the 4 of us it would be the best way to go.

I ended up buying a tin top instead. I reasoned that there wouldn’t be enough space for all four of us (me, wife, 7 yr old, 3 yr old) and all the associated bumph that goes with it.

Plus I would need to put up an awning so we had some outside space. Then realised that a ¾ bed wouldn’t be big enough for me if I was to share it with anyone as I am too wide.

Then in just a few years the bed in a pop top would be too small for 2 little kids.

So went tin top, I can put on a bigger roof rack for all the extra stuff.

We have a 68 Westy with the conti bed from Faux - we also have the front bunk

We fit 4 in it + dog, I have a 2 kids 12yr old girl and 10yr old lad. It is getting a squeeze - so we sleep in the awning on longer trips. If nothing else the additional head height you get with the roof up is nice when getting changed.

:?

It's nice to hear different thoughts about it. I know this would b the best solution for us.
I'm still struggling to convince the other half that this is what our family prob needs
She said the other night , show me a bus that would convince me that we should sell ours !
I think when our tin top is full of body's ( the boys not getting any smaller ) she may change her mind

Westy with a drive away awning been away with six, four in the bus two in the awning, sweet there is loads of room in the front hinge you can cheat and fit the lhd hammock and the right one as well, or get a double bed conversion, and the font seat bunk for the little uns. But I like the fold up caravan idea keep you bus it's a cracker
