Need to buy a new relay but mine is a 4 pin type, Connections C2,49,49a & 31.
The only place i can find one from is here
http://www.machine7.com/product.php?xProd=3054&xSec=214
but think £24 is stupid money for a relay, so my question is does anyone know what is needed to convert the wiring to a standard 3 pin relay? Is it possible?

Have been looking at a couple of wiring diagrams / schematics and it seems that 49 & 49a are the outputs, 1 goes to dashboard illuminations and the other goes to the switch. If i connected both of these together would this still work?

31 is -ve
49 is +ve
49a is the o/p to stalk
C2 is intrument lamp

the later (71/72) bays had a 3 pin and as you said the instrument and stalk connections come from the same point...
+ is =ve
31 again -ve
and 49a stalk and instrument lamp

and should get it at 20 notes less...

Also posted this on VZI and the 4 pin type i currently have was designed for use with towbar electrics.
Is there a feed from this relay to the towbar electrics and does anyone know which wire it might be as i removed the towbar and electrics without taking much notice

thinking about it 49a is prob stalk and instrument with the C2 as the towbar in this instance C2 being second lampthe question is wheres C? and how are the routing L and R indicators to the towbar?

what year is your bus?

My bus is a 1970 (71 model)
The towbar electrics where already fitted, they were just scotch locked off the existing wires.
Dont know how or why there would be a 4th contact on relay or where it runs to. Would there be a light on the dash to say i was towing? Lent my mates Discovery to collect the bay with and as soon as the trailer was plugged in a light on the dash let you know you where towing.

Having read your post on VZI you have fallen into the classic trap of confusing 2 answers. What Moby said was the extra contact could be used for tow bar electrics. That is, it could be used as a warning lamp which is a legal requirement. In practice, it would not not meet today's legal requirements so just fit a 3 contact relay and forget the rest. If you decide to fit or keep the tow bar then fit or keep the electrics for the tow bar.

Nice one cheers,
Moby thinks he might have a replacement relay cheaper than the original so i wait to see what he comes up with
