i'm just thinking aloud really, but when i was a kid growing up i used to design and build all manner of electrical gadgets that were, despite being conceived and constructed to the best of my knowledge... well... ****

i'm slowly being dragged into the modern age by mrs councillor... i can go on the internet, i even have my own mobile telephone, and being obsessed with music my ipods follow me about everywhere i go.

(well, nearly... i did design and build a robotic ipod tracking rabbit but it didn't work)

what am i on about ?

well, there's something clumsy about those FM transmitters that just doesn't quite sit right in my world... like they couldn't quite conceive of a perfect solution so they came up with that one and hoped nobody questioned them (like bus dropped spindles in a way)

but...

i have no experience of them so i guess my opinion is worthless

well, that was worth it. end of transmission

no, not worthless. i know what you mean. there's a nagging doubt in my mind. the other main option is something like this:

not sure if this is a period or new blaupunkt radio, but if period, then Rich Oakley can point you in the right direction for the correct connector

Get one of these they are ace! USB all the way, charges the pod and you can control it throught the head unit and hide the pod away

thanks for that, i've placed an order n the dutch site. used the translation link on the site.

i'm surprised i couldn't find a similar adapter in the uk though.

think i'll leave that to those that know what they're doing

anyway, it arrived this morning .... which isn't bad service at all!

just to say that Halfords are selling Sony headunits for £60 with aux output on the front for an ipod and it works a treat.

I have this controlling my tunes!

Cheap as chips - got mine via Ebay for about £25 IIRC. Will work via FM or direct connection etc.....
Got a basic Sony CD/MP3 head unit in the glovebox, need to tidy up the wiring a bit - and may change the headunit as it wont accept the amp i have, work for another day. I would prefer a direct connection, as it's better than the FM i am using currently.

I also use this on my old 60GB iPod when out in the van, this works well too:
