Ive seen it mentioned a few times (most recently in magazine article about Rikki's 69 Dormobile) that some early bays were fitted the 1500cc engine (I assume from the split) - any one know if there is any truth to this ?

I always though that all early bays came with a 1600 s/p.

I have to agree - As far as I know the 1600 s/p is the starting point for all Bays ... it must be a myth or people making mistakes... (although I never realised you could get a Bay with a 1300cc engine until the other day ... it was an option for the Italian market in the 70's apparently...)

 wow 1.3 bay must really struggle up hills

My mates engine blew up at a show a few years back, a new volkspares, and the only replacement we could get was a 1.3. It was fine, a bit thirsty, but otherwise fine. He run around on it for a few weeks until volkspares sorted another one. A 1300 is 44 BHP so it should run rings around a 1200 Splitty.
