I've got twin Webber ict's and 6mm unions and wanted to check its ok to use 6mm I'd fuel hose with them ?

Use fuel hose that is a tight push fit onto whatever union you are using.

Never use fuel hose that is a loose or leaky fit and then rely on a hose clamp to make a seal.

It's fine to use 6mm ID hose on a 6mm spigot. The hose ID is made with an offset tolerance, usually something like 6mm(-0.5/-1mm) so there's plenty of "grab". Ear clamps are best but not removable, then fuel hose clamps (spring band clamps are fine too). Never jubilee clips.

I wouldn't use R9 hose as while its readily available isn't ethanol resistant. (nor is R10...). That means that the ethanol in modern petrol will break it down, will start cracking etc. Changing a a pipe on the petrol tank without emptying it is not fun, so I'd recommend finding some proper ethanol resistant hose and follow the fixing advice above. I can't remember where I got mine from, but has been fit and forget so far, the R9 lasted a year...

As said above, your hose should be 5.5 or 5.6mm ID for 6mm fittings. Often though, fuel hose is sold as 6mm, meaning it fits 6mm fittings but will actually be marked as 5.5mm. But check to make sure.

As for R9 hose, it is ethanol resistant to E10, but the problem is, as VW's are often laid up over winter, the normal evaporation of the fuel can lead to higher concentrations of ethanol which will degrade the fuel pipe, leading to cracks and splits so it usually needs replacing every year.

If you fit a biofuel type hose they state they are capable of withstanding ethanol in petrol up to 100% concentration so should be a fit and forget option, although good practice says you should check it regularily anyway.

The cheapest price I found for the biofuel hose, such as the Cohline 2240, is at Car Builder Solutions. It is sold there as 6mm, but I can say for definite that it is 5.5mm ID.
