can any one point me in the right direction on dos or donts with buying any early bay right hand drive or left hand drive cheers gary :?:

The only guidance you need is to buy the most rust free example possible. It is very mixed out there from tarted up expensive wrecks ,expensive original fine examples.Sometimes you can get a right bargain that needs a little work though (don't they all?) Doesn't matter if it's from overseas or UK check it properly before buying. It's cheaper to sort out mechanical work than extensive bodywork usually. But unless you're doing the work yourself or go to a reputable repairer you can still get stung by shoddy workmanship.
What is your budget available?

could prob stretch to 10k

10k you lucky man! should get you a very nice van. get the most solid van you can.it will save you a fortune in the future. if it was my money,id get an origional unmolested bus.consider an import.they tend to be more structurely sound.and dont discount lhd. they are very easy to drive.also dont rush into anything.go and look at the varius types of van to decide which you prefer.go to a show .many different types of van there in one place.owners are very approachable and always happy to talk about their vans.we looked at loads of vans and travelled hundreds of miles, and went to some shows before we found ours, but it was well worth the wait.wouldnt recommend buying a van from a show though as many people inflate their asking price!.also consider where your going to keep your van.we oppted for a tin top as it was the only van style that would fit the garage.good luck with your search!

We've got a 69 and a 71 coming into work in the near future. They are RHD and on the water now from sunny Australia.
Also got a solid 72 deluxe microbus (always nice to see original paint in the arches) and a 72 campmobile at the workshop now.
If you ring the boss at the workshop (01400 282800) between 8am and 5pm he'll be able to give you some more info.
Cheers,
Scotty

you've not said where you are theres several reputable dealers and with 10K budget you should expect to get something of real quality...

You need to sit down and think what bus/van you want, want you want the bus to do, what if any conversion, wether 10k is purchase and work or wether your going to allow for rolling restos on top of that.....

Make friends with someone in the know / see if any of the guys on here are local to view with you....

best advice is to take a magnet and check the lower half of the body is still metal!
should get a very nice bus for 10k though, good luck with the search.

i dont think youll have any problem finding the right bus with 10K

i would take Scott's advice and go for a Oz import, for RHD and little to no rust. Be careful buying locally as alot of busses can look perfect but paint and filler can hide a multitude of sins. Have a look at Haveacampers resto thread.
