hi all i have a stock 1971 microbus and want to lower it but have absolutely no idea where to begin or how it affects the ride , who to go to etc, i understand that dropped spindles seem to be the route to go up front , but what of the rear cause it seems to sit real nice rear wise as is...
any advice , tips , etc places to visit,
cheers
for now
ste :?

There are lots of options for you...
Dropped spindles are a bolt-on way to lower your bus - non-adjustable but reversible.
Lowering kit from Red9 Design, slightly controversial (?) but good ride quality and adjustable.
Folksy type adjusters - welded into the centre of your front beam, adjustable and traditional method but can leave you with a harsh ride.
Cut & Twist - probably the oldest method out there, not adjustable, not recommended IMHO.
I'm sure there are others...

I'm the back looks good as it is then leave it - worth knowing know that the back is much easier to adjust than the front (you just need your toolkit).

;)

Just had mine lowered by T2d (01638 743 211), have done an excellent job. Give em a ring for advice, they do a drive in drive out in a day (approx £350) thats front & rear dropped :D

Cheers boys just had alook at thread that shows caroles bus at breeze . she has fitted an adjustable up front which i quite like the sound and look of ..regarding dropping rear , if its as easy as getting out me tool box then its what i shall do asap
cheers boys and girls
ste

Flynster have a look on tou tube - type 3 lowering - theres a set of videos on dropping the rear on there, same principle for the type 2. :D

Hiya Flynster.....

You're right, Beeglebus has adjustors welded into the front beam and has been dropped by one spline at the rear. I bought the adjustors from JK but VW Heritage do them too. I've always used them after having a very bad experience with a so called VW 'specialist' based in Essex, who took £250 of my hard earned to cut and turn the front beam for me, only for the van to fail it's MOT 3 weeks later as the front beam was totally shot......clearly the specialist was unable to see the rot in the beam whilst he cut and welded it.......but that's another story for another day....

I was suprised to see T2 Detectives doing the 'cut and turn' method, I'm sure their work is top notch but once done there is no adjustment......but equally, provided it's not too radical a drop then it should be absolutely fine.

I've got about a 3.5 inch drop at the front, and that is about right for me. I'm surrounded by speed bumps on my local streets  and also have to consider the weight inside the van when loaded up with kids and camping gear etc. It's no fun driving a van that keeps bottoming out every time you go over a bump.

There always has to be a compromise between looks and practicality......but at least with adjustors up front you can tweak it if you need to. Horses for courses really....

carole me darlin thanks for the advice, think i shall go down the same route cause i really like the look of your bus.. and i need to be practical, also i have been reading with interest your thread on your revamp and am mightily impressed with the work put in....you have given me new vigour to get out there and sort my interior out.
cheers
