Its a long shot but does anyone know if the mounting points for the middle seat in a Microbus are the same for a 2 seater as they are for a 3 seater. I mean should you be able to swap from a 3 seater to a 2 seater without any structual changes? Cheers in advance.

I'm pretty sure the floorpan for factory window fit vans, i.e the microbus 'platform' is the same for all buses.

My Westy has the same floorpan as a microbus as that's what it would have been had it not been designated for the Westy interior at the factory.

I'm sure when I stripped it out it had seat mounts across the whole width of the floor.

Anyone out there got a stripped interior to have a look....egotrippin...???

Hi Carole - I'm going to get some pictures of how the seat is secured at the weekend...it just looks very odd to me. I have the seat brackets etc but the seat is currently secured with bolts and wing nuts. The seat won't match up with the factory seat mounts.

The rear seat has the cast hook and keyway affair, trying to remember the middle bench when i removed it but think the fixings were wingnuts on them and the two / three floor pan should be the same.

Now thats interesting...like you say the rear has the cast hook thing...the middle basically has bolts coming up from the floor which can't be pulled out. The seat goes over these bolts and the wing nuts on top...it just feels a bit non VW to me and not as safe.....I will get some photo's.

mmmm dont sound right see if i can find out for you my mind during the rip out was more concerned with the free consignment of black widows i received with the bus.....

they should be T-head bolts fitted into the keyways and wing nutted in place I think, theres 3 plates on the floor in the centre bench position with key holes, there should also be holes for the seat belts these will be threaded....your bolts arent by any chance fitted into the seat belt mounts are they?

Ah four plates thinking about it yep remember now though Mine didnt have the cast hooks but wingnuts instead, hmmm just wondering if there was a change in the model years or wether the 3/2 seaters differed in any way, or wether mine had been bodged for that matter, I know my haynes for the late I had refers to T headed bolts and a change to the floor pan anchors....

I have originally had two person bench in the middle and have 4 mounting plates on the floor like three person benches require. So I think the floor is the same for busses.

I would suggest your floor or bolts have previously been bodged :(

My microbus runs a (full width) late bay middle seat (from an Oz '74 van) with no problems.

Do you have any pictures of the problem you have?
Could the legs of the seat be bent?
