I'm just about getting 20mpg out of a 1600cc twin port with twin 40's & a mondo exhaust. Do you think I would gain much mpg if I switched to smaller carbs?? I like the performance but it's getting expensive.

Which particular 40s do you have?

I've got Kadron 40s on my 1641.

In a beetle, this engine has got almost 40mpg on a long run. This is almost constant 50mph though, and in a lightweight beetle.

I've since swapped the exhaust and distributor on my engine (to stock/SVDA from Kadron single pipe and 009) and havn't had a chance to see how it goes on MPG now.

I have no flat spot now :)

I *think* it is because of the vac distributor, giving it more advance at low revs.

With the 009 I had a bit of a flat spot.

I've not changed the carb settings since fitting the vac advance.

Jim.

Personally I think that Kadrons aren't suited to a heavy bus, you have to keep you foot down harder in a bus and Kadrons like to drink.

Kadrons are a Brazillian built solex single barreled carb and by all accounts work well but with probs concerning the linkage, not sure but dont the linkage only come in a cetrepull config? ......

Webbers well greater choice dependant on what your wanting to use it for....

Also may be worth noting that Dellorto sizing differs to a comparable webber i.e. DRLA 36 = IDF 40...
