Brimmed my fuel tank so I could see the level in the tank gauge shows full drove 214 miles averaging 50mph stopped and refuelled again same level in filler neck put in 27 litres.I used a app on my computer to work out what im averenging it's saying I'm getting 36 miles to the gallon :) .Im well pleased as the price of fuel in Amsterdam is £1.65 a litre.I know I'm driving like a old man but the bus feels great cruising at this speed.Does any one else get these kind of figures on a run?

Dont think i get anywhere near that but gonna do the same test to find out!

we have just done a 1000 mile holiday through London and up hill to Scarborough! and it averaged 25mpg with the same test. weird but hills and the city didnt make much differance only on perfomance, there's some big hills on the M1.. in our daily you dont notice them.

The other week my van was fully loaded and towing a trailer tent.
It cost 100 pounds to do 315 miles.
Anyone know what my mpg was?

Just done over 3000 miles from £750 worth of fuel - however have no idea of mpg, 1600cc SP standard engine!

On a long run going to shows. Cruising around 55mph I get 30mpg. So 36mpg at 50mpg seems pretty good to me. It's just getting in the mindset of slowing down and chilling ;-)

you can't get a correct mpg on a single run it's only a guide for that journey.
the math is as follows litres in divided by 4.54 (litres in a gallon) divided by miles done.
there's a free i phone app called road trip lite shows your average over many fill ups and the more you do it the better the average - my van does 18 on average urban, i've had 23 best and down to 12 and 15 dicking it...

I do the sums on paper out of my glovebox every time I fill up, keeping note of the mileage and litres put in every time just out of curiosity
Doing the same sum as you said , mine averages 25-28 on a run at 55mph.
not bad for a 2.1 with twin 40 drla's 8)
much less around town though ..

I get between 14 and 28 mpg and average 23 mpg. Running a stock 1600tp. I use the aCar free app for Android. :)

i should point out you'll only get a semi accurate result from fill to fill so you know how much you've used/put in
mine is so bad 'cos i'm running a very heavy westy with an auto box.

Stock 1600 with twin baby dellortos and a 6 rib late bay box.Im writing down mileage and fuel used so I can work it out at the finish of the holiday

I take it from the reference to Amsterdam that you are driving in Holland. My experience of driving in Holland was that being basically flat (certainly Northern Holland) meant that one could stay in top gear more, therefore getting a better MPG, compared to the UK.

Are people using GPS based apps to calculate MPG or are they mainly relying on the mileage counter?

Reason I ask if, if it is the later, are you taking into account any rolling radius difference created by running (not for all) smaller front tyres?

To be honest we didn't buy these buses with MPG in mind, I tend to smirk each time the subject gets rasied.

well said 5erge, you early boys do run tiny tyres which could affect the mileage given vs actual, you should be using gps/sat nav for exact miles/speed
