This is a thread to show the progression of my 1970 T2a Bay Window Deluxe restoration project. 8)
We bought it on the 4 July 2011 in an auction called "Consolidated Auctioneers" in Durban,South Africa.
I am 15 years old and got my dad interested in VW Beetles. We were looking for a Beetle but when we saw the bus we got hooked and bought it in the auction for R25 000.

It has a good history and was in mint condition when we bought it.
I would like to Restore it to how it came out of the factory.
It needs quite a bit of Mechanical attention and a few cosmetic.
The bus is expected to be finished in 3 years by then i would have finished my matric and moving on to university.

Here are some pictures below of the bus after we picked it up and brought it back home:

I looked behind the drivers seat to see if there was a so called M-Plate and i only found 2 things that could be it. Please could someone assist me in decoding it and identifying what these plates are?????????????

Firstly, WOW, what a beautiful van! 8) 8) 8) and at R25000 thats like £2200 in UK money - unbelievable!!

There was athread on here a while ago where someone was asking about SA "m code" plates, and I chipped in a bit from some research I did a while back. The plate in your first pic is the SA CKD (completeley knock / knocked down) plate which is totally different to the m code plates for vans built in Europe (Hannover mostly, some Emden as well I think)

I will try and find the link to the other thread for you and post it up

We have sent the bus in to the mechanics to get 100% mechanically new.
They predicted to finish it by the end of December this year.
