:D Hello all, my first attempt at this so bare with me.

71 Deluxe Bay Cal import, sound, minute amounts of surface rust to the cargo floor and passenger footwell, battery tray rotten luckily no further spread, however the last guy was a radio ham so holes drilled everywhere, very shabby interior, came with rat droppings, chewed upholstry and imported spiders (yes the ones with the red eggtimer and yes I ran for cover).

Sorry no pics as my camera packed in the day before I took delivery and the bus is now in the spray shop (unfortunately hes not the quickest worker but more importantly its coming on a treat and lookin good).

I intend to keep the motor pretty stock, a steam clean, just a few shiny bits, deep sump and 72 plate cooler.

Stock ride height for now, still thinking of wheels cant stay focused I think i'll wait till the vans on the drive.

Still not sure wether to refit the chrome beltline as I have already opted to fit a standard set of window rubbers (the chrome strips on mine werent salvageable), thoughts please?

I am trying to lay my hands on paper/card patterns for the door cards and kick panels if anyone can help? I want to make my own and sculpt them to allow for speaker pods etc...

Im also going for a day/surf bus rear with a very contemporary feel, has anyone any suggestions or links to sites, does anyone have the dimensions of the rear compartment so that i can at least start on the planning stages? I just want somewhere to chill after a day on the surf, with the little lady, son and lazy dog.

Just noticed I've been yapping on so i'll leave it there for now.

Loving the forum

welcome :D

it would be a proper crime not to refit the chrome (deluxe) beltline trim and no mistake, even if you ditched the window chrome - most deluxes don't have window chrome

though you can get new chrome for the windows, I did a while back for mine

but I'd save yer money for fancy wheels if i were you

hiya
re fit the chrome otherwise you would have to weld up all the trim holes!
deluxe trim rocks!

also worth mentioning that early bays have different kick panels to late bays, so make sure you get the right ones

I forget where do the right ones mind, I'm sure someone will know

hello good evening and welcome . now go fix that camera   8)

:D :D thanks everyone nice to see a healthy comunity ut there and a big cheers to Swartie I owe u a beer that is exactly what I have been hunting for.

Welcome dude,
Yes, yes, yes to the beltline trim as it's cool as you like. Also get it slammed and then decide on the wheels as you may change your mind when they're tucked up in the arches
Most of the people are great on here but there's a couple to watch out for
Now just enjoy the bay 'cos Thats what they're designed for 8)

hello there,a big NO to the belt line i think it looks **** il take it of ya hands to get it out ya way tho

I've just gone thru the trim and Its in such good condition that I will more than likely be re-fitting it. It can set it apart on the right paint job. I've had some fun with the cad drawing and I'm nearly there with the layout for the rear, just trying to gee up the spray shop, so I can drop the motor back in and get out in it.

Hello and welcome? Why are you gonna fit a deep sump and cooler, it is not worth it on a stock engine. Go with the belt line trim it looks the nuts.:D

The reason for the deep sump and cooler is i suppose belt and braces, we intend to travel quite extensively to south of france italy etc... and i have some almost disastrous memories of my old 74 (RIP).
The extra oil/cooling on those dry hot drives will be most benificial. peace of mind.
