Went to a car boot the other month and got the complete nirvana back catalogue! Only wanted nevermind but not going to complain
Also think that both the chillies and foo fighters are worthy of a mention
I saw Nirvana play in Newcastle in 91 when they were touring for Nevermind. They were awesome. They were supported by an all girl japanese punk band called Shogun Knife who were also pretty hot. There were loads of good bands playing in Newcastle back in the 90s. Saw Rage against the machine, Metallica and Fugazi (three times!!) amongst others.
What about the Wonder Stuff, got tickets to see the original line up (Eight legged grove machine) in London on the 31st. 8). They are doing more dates as well.
I went to that gig at Newcastle Mayfair and they did not kick my ass but Jon Spencer's Blues Explosion at the Cumberland Arms about six months later certainly did. Loads of good bands played Newcastle around then- Pavement at the Riverside and a couple of excellent Pixies gigs spring to mind
Shonen Knife were one of Kurt Cobain's favourite bands- an all girl punk band from Japan. The other support were a Scottish band called Captain America who he liked too. I was always well impressed that as Nirvana's career took off they always gave support slots to bands they liked and that were worth seeing rather than any old dross the record company was trying to launch.
