I have had an e-mail from a guy who writes for a magazine I subscribe to - Steam Railway. He has been putting on special events to draw attention to the plight of would you believe farmed bears in China.

It's all too gruesome for me to fully find out about, but I read enough to put a monthly contribution their way.

They suggested I send an e-card to a friend but thought putting their web address on here may be a better way...

I have had some details about the fund raising event in support of this bear charity, copied below. Included are the web address and the e-mail for the guy organising it.

May be of interest to someone - maybe you know someone who you could pass the link on to?

Murder Mystery Dining Train at the
Severn Valley Railway, Friday August 10th 2007

There’s been an
’orrible ghastly murder
- but are you shrewd
enough to work out
‘whodunnit’?

AS A DINER on board the steam-hauled ‘Whodunnit’ Murder Mystery Dining Train at the Severn Valley Railway on Friday August 10, you’ll see the whole ghastly plot unfurl before your very eyes, from the comfort of your seat in a 1920s Great Western Railway ‘art deco’ Restaurant Car.

You’ll watch professional players enact a classic 1920s murder melodrama, and over dinner, as the train steams rhythmically up the Severn Valley from Kidderminster to Bridgnorth on a glorious summer’s evening, you’ll be able to quiz the players on their alibis. One of them will be concealing the guilty secret – but which one?

There are at least six suspects. Are you shrewd enough to sort the genuine clues from the ‘red herrings’, and collar the murderer? There are great prizes and framed certificates for the most successful sleuths. But even if you flunk it – and most do – it’s still a great evening out – at the theatre, in a restaurant, on a steam train!

The Severn Valley Railway is hosting this special ‘Whodunnit’ Murder Mystery train on Friday August 10, in support of the British animals charity ‘Animals Asia Foundation’, which is fighting to end the barbaric practice of ‘bear farming’ in China, and which has already rescued 220 bears from unspeakable torture.

Tickets for the August 10th Murder Mystery ‘Whodunnit’ are £49.50 each, and diners are enthusiastically encouraged to join in the spirit of the occasion by coming suitably dressed
in 1920s period attire. You can be as civilian or as military as you like! It’s not compulsory to ‘dress up’ of course – but you might feel a little uncomfortable if everyone else around you has!

There’s an on-train Draw with over £1,500 worth of prizes to be won, including a flight for two in a De Havilland Dragon Rapide bi-plane, a signed Limited Edition print by renowned wildlife artist David Shepherd OBE, FRSA (of the rescued ‘Moon Bear’ Jasper), tickets to see ‘The Police’ in concert at Twickenham in September, a ’Footplate Experience’ locomotive driving course at the Severn Valley Railway….and lots of bottles!

If you fancy yourself as a budding Hercule Poirot, or if you just want to savour the ’Whodunnit’ experience, please send an SAE and a cheque, made payable to ‘Animals Asia Foundation’, to me,
