I said goodbye to my late bay firebus today.
It was quite special in that it had only ever done 6,500 miles in its 33 year life, and it was still in its original paint and un-welded. 8)
BUT it was not an early bay, and an early bay it must be! 8)
I shall probably wait until next year before I look for an early to replace the late with.
I thought I would just pop a couple of pics up of my firebus, as some may be interested to see an almost 'as new' condition German Bay, even if it is only a square bumper model! :D

I promise to only post pics of early bays in future!!

Nice bus that Doug keep us posted on how your search is going , What are you after mate 8)

Thanks J&M and Grazy. :D

Yep, sad to see her go. Got a bit of a lump in my throat, even though I didn't have her long, whereas I had my previous bay 9 years. :)

To be honest I'm not sure what I want next. I spose I'm not too fussy. I've always loved original Danburys, as I grew up with one, but I like Dormys and deluxes too. Whilst I've never been a huge Westy fan, I like ones like Clem's that are white all over. But there again I love panels too! 8)
Hmmm I guess I'll just see what's out there and 'strike' when something catches my eye! :D

I'll keep you posted anyway. :D

That bus certainly looks tidy. You must be gutted to get rid of it. Still, it's for the greater good in the end if you're getting an early.

Good luck finding what you want.

Yep, gutted to see her go Jabbo, but low indicators and round bumpers are the way forward! :D

When I first bought the firebus the seller told me that the siren was disconnected. I knew the lamp worked via a switch on the dash, which I had demonstrated on a few occasions to friends. The siren was operated via a foot operated switch on the floor, which I had tried, and like the seller had told me, nothing happened . Anyway, the first thing the new owner demonstrated to me was that the siren worked absolutely fine when used in conjunction with the lamp! Doh! I'd never thought of that! I could have had quite a bit of fun had I known that before!

That is one tidy looking late firetruck.....

Gutted for you, would love that as well...

a fleet of vw vans would be great if space and funds permitted

split 23 window
my current early bay micro
Synchro double cab
T5 sportsline
Frid
and now your old latebay
:D :D
fingers crossed you find that early your after

Is that a double slider as well?
Perfect colour too, so don't have any regrets about posting pics of it up.
Are there many firebuses around? I've only seen a couple but they would be great to own, with such low mileage and being pampered their whole lives living inside those nice warm dry fire stations.
You are a true believer to the early cause Dougie, letting that one out of your hands in the seach for an early. Respect!
David

I've got a 72 crossover panel van (ex firevan) 24000 km on the clock.
It's got a few knocks and scuffs but zero rust.
I will try to post a picture.

If you have any difficulties, email them to me and I will post em up for you.

Maybe we could start a "Show us your Firebus" sticky thread?

Araon, in my fleet of veedubs I'd definitely keep the firebus, then I think I'd have a selection of early bays, to include a panel van and some mint original campers such as the white devon tin-top (Sunlander if I recall) that was advertized on here a while back. I would have a couple of beautiful original Danburys I've come across in the past, and the 10k miles Westy crossover that the guy who's just bought my firebus has! Oh and I'd have the 18k miles early deluxe from Sweden that appears from time to time on here. Sorry, can't remember the name of the owner. 8)

David, thanks for your comments. Yep the firebus was a twin slider. There are a few firebuses around, and I see them come up from time to time. I've seen some lovely early bay ones too, like the one you put pictures up of on Baywatch. The guy who bought mine loves them. He's got a 20k mile split firebus (van) in his collection too!
I asked a couple of Veedub mags if they'd be interested in doing an article on my bus. They both initially seemed very interested, then I never heard from them again. Bit strange, as I thought most people would be interested in seeing features on 'time-warp' vehicles such as that one!

Stuartrolfe I look forward to seeing pics of your crossover van. I lurrrve crossovers, as the Danbury that was new to our family was one. 8)

J & M, I like your firetruck! :D
