Your van has either been converted to small 5 pattern, or is a '71 model

'71 models were produced from August '70 onwards.

Funny you should say that, its been said before. Its a Lhd on a V plate 1980 and was told it was a Dec 69, then working out the chassis number in a mag it said it was a 1970 ? I've got a vw letter somewhere from when i got her might have a look just now.
Its got the 1 year brakes on the front too.

Well from what I'm reading the one year only brakes were from Aug 71 - Jul 72 !!! So to me I'd say thats a year But saying that i don't know why they are on a Nov 70 bus ????

I believe it was increased for '73, not '72.

Therefore, not a one year only part.

1971 and 1972 model year vans had the same front brakes. Which is why Jukers '71 model ('70 built) van has them too. As does my '71

shit your right it was the 73 with the increased pad however early 71 (aug 70 to march 71) has a single bleed valve to the calipers, I knew there was a difference somewhere only really useful in identification however it does mean i missed out on a tidy pair of calipers feck..... :x

My '71 has one caliper with one bleed nipple, and one caliper with two.

I'm not 100% sure the difference was there when built in the factory, but my brakes work pretty well - and the parts are interchangeable.

I think I missed out on those calipers too

My MOT man (who I get to do my brakes) described my current calipers as being "Rough as F*ck" :lol:

IIRC, 1971 model vans should also have flat wheelarches. 1972 vans are the first to have the flared arches (vans made 8/71 onwards.)

Your van ought to have flat arches if it is a '71.

'72 vans were the first to have flared arches, however '72 arches are a one year only part as the bottom of them is the same as the flat arches - to accomodate the rounded bumpers.

1973 vans were the first vans to have flared wheelarches without the mount for the rounded bumpers, which were used up until the end of bay production in Europe.

1972 was also the first year to have the wider flared rear arches, to match the front ones.
