I think they were body coloured until 1970. I am sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

I think it was an VW-option... I'm not sure either.

Sorry, i don't have a photo from this moment. A colored dash brings color to the interior of the bays.. 8)

That does look nice indeed....How easy is it a job to do after everything has been done? I knw it will be much better to get it done while at the paintshop but need to think about my options.
Cheers

Its easy to do to be honest, i will do mine at some point when i can be bothered 8) Just make sure all the wires etc are labelled up and put into place for ease of return. Then its just a case of prepping and spraying 8)

I believe all European ones (metal ones) were indeed painted body colour as standard 'til that time, and USA had the black padded ones from the outset. :D

Padded dashes were from 68 onwards on USA buses ,Painted dashes were from the factory from 68 up to 69 model year but i have had a 70 with a painted dash . In 1970 all bays went to black painted dashes till 79

Although im imho I love a painted dash no matter what the year

I painted mine, then to add an extra bit of colour I retrimmed my dashtop to match my seats and doorcards, looks pretty good even if I do say so! I don't know how to post a link but its in the gallery, I'll bump it!

Another 68 only trait on euro buses. US had padded from the introduction of the Bay to meet safety standards (Its on the M codes)
Lots of buses have been changed to painted dash over the years. Mines on the might do list but im looking for another early LHD dash to do it to so i can just swap them over without having the bus off the road to long.

i'm hopefully planning to cover my dash in leather to match the colour of the seats. but i think painted dash's look tonnes better than black.

ive got my upholstery guy doing a baseball stitch on the dash, leather is too hard to work, pancho and neil both had this done on their buses and it looks really sweet.

remember that a light coloured dash top will reflect onto the window if theres any sun at all.

Ive thought of this, but i think keeping the top section in the window black wouid help (the bit with the vents and speaker grill in)
