anyone done this? What paint have you used and any special process to ensure all is well?

Thanks

High build etch primer and then add your colour in 2 pack. Worked great on mine........ 2pack is no longer available though :(
I have heard that smooth hammerite put on with a roller works well? :?

You can still get 2 pac in quite a few places. It is the best stuff to use.

Hi!

Not much paint left on my roof, all gel coat and fiberglass coming through. Prolly flaked off with the Californian sun i guess.

Does hammerite really work then? Would i need to use primer, or just roll away?!

Alistair

I know that FBI apply a stone chip if the roof is raw, flat it off a bit and then paint it (by hand) with two pack

Etch on fibreglass?????

You can still buy 2pack, only some if it didn't comply with the regulation changes.

At work we give all fibreglass poptop roofs a light D/A with something like 240 or 180 grit, then high build, flat and paint all in 2k.

My roof has fibers coming through & looks dog rough!

I sanded a section with an 80 grit Abranet paper & it knocked it straight back. I could just high build straight on it & paint it.

2 pac is still available period in my local paint shop. Suppliers can still sell it if it is dated 2006 ;)

My roof was dog rough when we got the van, mouldy, grey, dirty and with the glass fibres showing through in places.

I used some 400grit wet n dry to knock it back and then used hard wearing floor paint from B&Q ! :D

Applied it with one of those little gloss rollers. It took a few coats to do it but it's left a really good hard wearing satin white finish! And it had the added benefit of not needing the surface to be perfectly smooth.

It only cost about £15 too.

the only way to sort the roof properly is to basicly sand the roof with a da with a soft pad and then your paper on this, 240s grit or 320s,then prime it with 2pack primer but give it plenty of coats, dont wet flat the roof as this will make the fibres stick up more, when your primed up then you can flat it with 800s wet and dry,the roof should be sealed and all thye fibres will be covered.then repaint the roof with 2 pack its the best way.you can even gel coat it if you want,i would not use hammerite as once thats on your not going to get it of,but it all depends on how much you want to spend and how good you want it to look,i always add some mattin g agent to the paint finish as when they were new they wernt shiny paint like the van. :)

I'd like mine shiny, dear sir

I'd go 2-pack too, but you need to add a softening agent if you really want it to adhere to the polyester surface.
