I know lots of peps have issues with there petrol gauges.

I've just recently connected mine . First time since buying the bus.
I thought it was working fine? , registed half full ( about right )
Drove up north Norfolk this wk end ( 1.5 hour drive ) gauge didn't move, stayed on half full!

What's the best plan of action to try find what's going on ?

Sounds like your sender has it's float stuck in position so won't change resistance and will always read half full.
To remove and replace the sender you can either do it by removing the bumper, valence, engine, firewall, drain the tank and then remove that or cut an access panel like I did.

Check my build thread for more info on where I cut the access panel

My bus is similar. For ages I didn't think it worked. But like yours, mine registers half full. yet when I get to half full she will actually start recording the level and the needle will gradually reduce down. So I decided to keep the petrol gauge as she was, so long as I know at some point when the fuel is running low, that is all that counts to me and she has not failed me yet.

Mine seems to start at half full ..... I put about £40 in and if hikes to full but never goes below half. I ran out one time.
