Piston condition?

Hi all,

Changed one of the heads over (1600 T1 engine) at the weekend due to a burnt valve & noticed the pistons were looking a little black! This is the first time i've done this, do they look normal? Should I clean/polish them?

Thats pretty normal, its deposits left by the suck squeze bang blow.

You can clean it up but not 100% necessary, worth making sure there is no grim or grit than can be rubbed up and down by the piston rings to score the barrels.
