Shut it, old man

Excuse the silly question but Im curious.
You wax a gloss painted van to protect the paint from grime and fading
So what would you use on a satin or matt finish to protect it from grime and paint fade :D

Washed mine yesterday
only second time in two years

Dont remind me, mines well over due and ive got that 3 stage maguires stuff so you have to do it 5 times including wash and rinse.

Hi :?: for ProfessorWheeto mines just a single stage matt finish just to get me up and running.but some time in the future I will have it done right

Do you think if I have a matt clearcoat applied over the matt paint,it will keep a fresh paint look and Ill be able to protect it.
I dont know how you painted yours and Im no professional paint sprayer but it looks good, mines a matt blue and I
keep getting black streaks on it.Maybe with the clear coat I won't get this
just my thoughts and would like your professional opinion on this
Cheers....Dave

I hope you was more than once a year graeme

I love the perfect line around the roof of your van where you stop washing at

After all my moaning, the bus does look great now. My 40 year old paint shines! Can't believe its aged soooooo well. :D

there's a saturday gone  but you can't argue with the results, not been washed for 4 years before i had it

Matt finish will always pick up skanky marks, which is one of the reasons why I opted for a satin finish. Personally I prefer a slight sheen rather than a blackboard look anyway.
The paint I used was a direct (single stage) 2 pack product made by Selemix (PPG)
It's really a light commercial paint (so really tough and durable), but its primer based (so unlike normal topcoats contains rust inhibitors) and can be used on to bare metal. I sprayed it onto bare metal on my load bed and underside.
http://www.paintservices.com/products.htm?id=85" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
The other nice thing is that it comes in a range of colours AND gloss levels off the shelf, so there is no faffing about mixing in a matting agent. I used a 30% gloss black on the pick up.

I have to admit I have waxed the van once or twice. I got sent a spray on wax as a present, so its really really easy. Just spray it on and wipe it off. Takes about 5 to 10 mins to do the whole van!
The van was a bit more shiny than normal but still looked satin rather than gloss and it soon dulled back down.

So you can get away with using a wax on a satin finish but if you use an abrasive like a polish or a cutting compound it'll bring the paint up to a shine.

Cheers for the info ProfessorWheeto, Mine should be matt (well I asked for the paint to be matt) but its still got a slight sheen to it Ill wash the van and try that wash and wax on a small area see what it comes up like thanks...Dave
