ok, i have been toying with the idea of poorsche 944 discs on the front and buying some rear drums from creatvie with the porsche pcd or having mine re drilled.

my only concern is the front, i have searched high and low on all forums and found nothing overly conclusive to how its done.

i know i will need to do my own caliper mounts, but what about the hubs, being an early 1970 bay i have the wide five drums and have been told that the 944 hubs fit perfectly, but im not sure if i need bearing adapters or spacers etc.

could anyone give me any ideas of parts needed other than calipers, hubs, disks etc and if any machine work is needed

thanks

i used 944 S2 aluminium hubs which i machined with a new bearing and some spacers on a 67-69 spindle. However i know you can use early 944 hubs directly - try getting in touch with pantswagen on Vzi he is v knowledgable on this. in fact i think he has some parts/ kits for sale which might be of use to you.

the front is easy see this:

I like that Vdub engineering kit, any idea what model 944 the calipers are off??

Steel ATE calipers are from the porsche 944 NA Bj. 1983 - 1985/1986!

The 944Turbo has 4-pot brembo's Bj. 1986-

so basicaly any non turbo model brakes will fit.

Yes thats idee :p

When you have turbo brakes you have the four-pot brembos and you need this kit: http://www.vdubengineering.com/products/brakes/944Tbus.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
see product conversions:
http://www.vdubengineering.com/products/porscheconversions.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The AN calipers are 76mm bolt distance and the turbo's 94mm so same spacerkit differant adapter :wink:

Blimey Axlfoley - With so many different options being put forward, I'm spinning over what appears to be the best and most cost effective solution. Like you, last week the 'frontera' option looked terrific, and yet here is another tried & tested solution - yet alone the 'well maintained drums are fine' thoughts Must get my stock wheels sorted and then lie down and think ...! At the moment god knows! Wish I had a more techie head and mechanical capabilities!

lol yeah its mad, I am discounting the drums as i hate them, too much maintanance for my liking, and too much room for human error when it comes to adjustment.

As it stands it looks like as long as you get a set of porsche 944 calipers and hubs you can get a bracket to fit them, I like the idea of Porsche brakes as I like Porsche wheels a lot, so at the moment this is my favoured option.

i think its time to resurch the rear options :)

theres also another one i managed to find but i cant find these calipers at a decent price anywhere, yet they look super nice :)

944 hubs, disc's and Boxster 4-piston calipers

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=227043&highlight=split+944

still uses the 944 hubs and bearing spacers but the caliper mount in made differently due to the bolt locations on the calipers

initially I used the 944 S2 (brembo 4 pots) but then changed my brake caliper mount to one to accept the boxster type caliper....except i didnt have any calipers and back then they were more £ than they are now. so instead i used the calipers from the 928 S4. these are the same size as the boxster and they are made in two pieces not monoblock. they use the same mounting and are much cheaper - they do look a little different but I guessyou get what you pay for...more stopping power for less £, or fancy looks for more £?? Know which i would rather.
