i took the van out for the first time since refurbing the dynamo tonight and it started fine ticked over fine but when i pulled away i noticed a loud noise like it was blowing from the xzorst.
after a couple of miles all seemed to quieten and travelling at 55-60mph it was not loud, well no louder than normal.
engine is a new long block from SSE ran in as per spec all is fine.
16tp standard zorst with xchangers stock carb with oil bath filter.
can it be a blowing exhaust??
would it not get louder the faster you go/rev??
all nuts were nipped up tight including manifolds.
again surely it would be mega loud the harder you push it??

any takers?

Check the ring fittings where exhaust joins the heat exchangers, mine are constantly blowing and I only notice it when I'm pulling it out of the garage or manoeuvring .might see a bit of soot around the offending join?

yeah i got fkt off with trying to line up the zorst and xchanger with the pathetic clamp which is no way near wide enough to seal air from shroud thru to xchanger so i ripped the knuckle thingy bit off and used fresh air hose instead,or are you on about the silencer to xchanger joint???

Yep I mean the join with the ring and two clamps bolted together. The air hose bit won't make it any noisier but the other one will

well the joint at the exchanger and zorst is fine so is the joint at the head, looks like it is the joint where preheat pipe comes out the zorst or there is a split in the front of the silencer but goes quiet when warm

is it common for the preheat pipe to blow coming out of the silencer??

Perhaps when the exhaust heats up and the metal expands slightly the hole/split/crack seals itself up which would explain why it only does it cold?
