Anybody reccommend a good one to stick in the bus?

Seen this one on evilBay...

Seems very cheap, and looks pretty rugged too. I don't want one that'll break if dropped (as it no doubt will).

I guess the alternative is a Maglite with rechargeable batteries - but I'd much rather have one that I can take with me (and charge if necessary in the bus).

This is quite trick (and appropriate) - but not very practical :)

What about a wind up torch?

I bought a wind up torch/radio from vanfest. For about 1 minutes worth of fast winding,it promises 15 minutes of radio use.I timed it at about 4 minutes. The torch is even worse. You have to virtually wind it whilst you are using it.Then the wind up handle snapped off. :( .So it now only works with 4 AA batteries.I would get a rechargeable one if I where you.

I'll not go down the "did it give your wrist a good work out" road. damn I just have....

the lantern we got lasts an age on a couple of mins winding and bright enough. Helen keeps looking at the radios but Im not sure may have to do a bit more investigating.

Theres a few versions of the ciggy lighter torches on the web loo good but how useful are they????

Similar question asked on my 'other' forum a while ago - not rechargable, but lost of links to other forum and online shops.

Common 'upgrade' is a maglite torch, but with an LED bulb - batteries last ages.

Understand you may want a rechargable though....

Whilst we are on the subject of lighting, I have upgraded instrument lights (on the caterham, not the van, but will do so at some point) from this website - also got torches:

The one I got was a bit cheep and cheerful about £13 I think and the torch isn't the LED type.So probably if you spend a bit more than I did you will get a decent one that doesn't fall apart in a day.

What about something like one of the petzl headtorches.

I've got one of these for fishing on the beach at night. The batteries last for ages and the LED bulbs give of loads of light. Very useful in an emergency and you can have your hands free. I have had two rechargable lamps that were frustratingly crap but now I use an old parraffin Tilley lamp which is brilliant once you've mastered the wizardry of lighting it.

i have a really good stainless steel rechargable torch (£70) with 3 led brightness settings and a halogen beam that can be seen 3 miles away 8)

the lowest LED setting lasts 26 hours on one charge, the halogen setting last 16 mins

it was pricey but the best investment i made, as swans are always hitting overhead lines where we live putting our 'Lecky' out at least twice a month.
