Hi guys, first post here. I've had a 70 Westfalia for 4 years or so with the last 3 in the garage. to remove the rear hub nuts are they handed?? or are they just normal right hand thread?? They are very tight to remove and I'm just not 100% sure which way I should be turning.

Thanks

PS, Great site...

My mrs`uncle sorted mine with a length of scaffold pole and a tractor socket thingamajig!! They are under something daft like 250ft/lb of pressure!!

Someone will be along shortly i`m sure with a better answer!!

Thanks guys,

I have a long bar, just need to know which way to turn it.

Normal screw thread (same as wheel nuts) They are very tight,I welded a socket on to a scaffold bar then used another length to make it even longer! The socket I used was on old mini ball joint socket which I haven't used for about 15 years so I'll leave it attached to the scaffold bar now.

I had to get the handbrake on and someone holding the brakes right on too. Also if you mark the edge of the nut up in relation to the hub you can do it back up to the marks when you go back together.

Mine undid with a 3/4" 46mm socket on a 2' long breaker bar and 6' of scaffold pole with me (18 stone & my uncle 14 stone) gripping onto the pop top and jumping up and down.

WOW!!!! My bar ain't that BIG!

I knew there was a reason I didn't get them off last time!

Soak it in WD40 over night, then use a blow lamp to get it hot, spray more wd40 to cool it then undo in the normal direction with a long bar with a 46mm 3/4 breaker.

This is how I did mine this weekend  The heat makes all the difference.

i always cut mine off carefully with a 1mm cutting disc (be careful not to damage thread - saves a lot of sweat and grief.....replacements are about £5 from GSF.
