Hi,

has anybody any tips on removing the front beam on Early bays, Mines a '70 have removed all the bolts and the ruddy thing still refuses to come down, gear linkage is out, as is clutch cable, handbrake cable, and anything else you can think of, but will it move will it F$%k..

3 eves now i have been trying very trying..

help me please

apart from the obvious of hitting with the large hammer coz thats what its comming too..lol

Removed and removed..

and heater cables

its basically holding itself upthere no bolts, no cables, no steering, no gear shift, all thats left on is the stub axles and drums to add some weight to bring it down but no 'i wont come it says..'

must be a female van..

Try a large pry bar between the tubes,to try and rock it.Sometimes they have shims between chassis and axle, trying to rock it disturbs them and they drop free.

Steve

What about blow-torching the supports against the chassie then the big hammer?

Steve,

use a large piece of scaffold tube like and between top and bottom tube and out to front of van and give a damm good rock, should i use bottom of front panel to leaver on or try to avoid it?? sorry to sound dumb.. first time i have faced this.. give me a wire or 2000 no prob but this has me beat i tell ya..

Jon

tried the chocs and chrome,, no use

i think hes saying to use the tubes only and just try to lever them back and forth so they spin on the point thats sticking if that makes sense

Watching this thread, im going to have to do this job soon..

What about hitching it to a Navara or something and pulling away quick :p

Do you need to keep the beam?? You could grind it otherwise..

Without wanting to point out the obvious how many bolts have you removed?
Has the beam been welded to the chassis?

try lowering it back onto the wheels to see if you get any movement as the arms will make it twist forwards(ensure you have chocks or axle stands under the chassis so it cant hit the floor).

Loxy,

removed all 8 bolts and no not welded to body or the chassis, it has moved a small amount then thats it stopped, guess its as Steve said use a big pry bar and keep on rocking..

and answer to cunning plan, yes i am reusing the beam, just dropping it down for cleaning and painting and paint the underside of van..
