So, I'm trying to sort my rear end out and have everything stripped to the point of removing the spring plates from the torsion bars. But they just wont come off  I can get the arm past the lower lip and it does drop any further so assuming either not under any tension or just not enough movement in the torsion bar to let it drop any further. Also it seems as though it is stuck at both ends because no matter how much a try and pry the spring plate off, nothing moves.

Any tips on budging the damn thing?????

Still stuck fast. I would have through that the amount of pressure I am forcing behind it, at least it would come out of the inner splines and the whole thing comes out

Am I missing something? It isn't fastened at the inner side is it ?????

Next step is to grind the spring plate down and try and split the casing and prise apart.

Is the spring plate still on the lip on the bottom
You need to move it off the lip so it hangs free then it should put out (may need a bit of force.

If not on the lip and just hanging then sounds like it is rusted on the inner splines.

To get mine off of the outer splines I used a pully, the nearside one took a lot of effort while the offside one wasn't to bad.

Good luck and hope you get it sorted.

Any chance of some pictures that may show something? I`ve had a few off but never encountered a mahoosive problem like this. When the plate is dangling  there shouldn't be any tension on it from the torsion spring . If it`s still under tension, it would be quite hard but still do-able if you have strong nerves. BUT !!! go really carefull,. that spring exerts a lot of force to that plate.

Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,,,,, Don`t want to lose a pinky now do we

Hallebloodylujah

So after weeks of trying different tactics the stubborn bar steward is off

It was clear that there was no tension on the spring plate and it was just getting in the way so I cut it off

Then i tried a variety of pullers, three leg, two leg but couldn't get anything to fit. So out came the grinder again and bit by bit I removed more. No going back now.

But with the heat from grinding it started to move. I guess if I had some sort of heat gun, it would've been easier but I didn't. So a bit of grinding, a bit of whacking, then some more grinding, banging, whacking and it continued to move ever so slightly. Here it is, after an hour......

Then I managed to get the puller behind it and slowly it moved.

And finally

The culprit or atleast what is left of it

So I've finally moved onto the otherwise and guess what. Stuck solid again. FFS. Bought a gas torch for this side to try and heat things up but which bit do you heat? The spring plate or the torsion bar or both?

Can't believe my bloomin luck

Knock it out (including torsion bar) from the other side?
When I put my new torsion bars in I realised one was pushing the other out so they must just butt up in the middle of the chassis
Once out you could grind the spring plate off?

It's finally off. Stubborn barsteward. Unfortunately I had to grind and cut this one to pieces too. But it's off and I can push on.
