While reading some old volksworlds from circa 1996, it struck me how foolish ive been sellin cars that are worth a bloody fortune! Like the '68 bay with mot i swapped for 2 new beetle doors, some heater channels and a bonnet!grrr!

Now as we can all see, bays are goin the same way as splittys. In '96, you could have a decent mot'd bay for£2500-£3k,£6k was unheard of and a split for £3.5-5k.There was even a mint 23 window for £9995! Forget it today! At the same time my mate sold his solid but scruffy '65 split for£1500!

Will bays continue to rise and only be available to the fortunate few like splits, i think so, especially low lights.

I think its fantastic people are spending the time and money on bays which they would not have done 10-15 years ago, a sign of the times perhaps, or have we all just realised that splits are overpriced and really not quite as nice to own as an early bay!
Well, thats what i think and i never consider my early bay as second best to a split, bays did afterall, superceed them! :D

Definately agree with you, with regard to looking back through old volksworld. Splits with a years MOT for under £3K!. if I'd known then what I know now I would have bought a couple of properties, a couple of buses, and not bothered going to uni. I'd have been sorted by now.

It definately seems earlybays are the vehicle of choice at the mo, and prices don't seem to be showing much chance of slowing.

that's what i decided. splits are so overpriced (seem to be going for about £4000 more than bays when i was looking over the last few months) i saw a battered split shell without an engine and only 3 wheels on Ebay for £3000!!! dont think it sold though  and when you look at a bay (especially early ones) they're just so much cuter than splits anyway! we need more Bay merch... i have so many campervan things but only 2 of them are bays! (1 egg cup and 1 belt buckle)

Although my friends take the piss because i spend so much keeping my van on the road, i feel safe in the knowledge my bus's price is going up their renault clios and corsas are already depreciating and quite possibly worth less than my van already. Prices for some splits are getting stupid now.

My friend brought a project split from SA, rusty roof, engine present but not connected, no interior for £6,000!

Im just glad i grabbed a damn good lowlight 2 years ago, or i'd never be able to afford one, or at least not before i finished UNI

yes early bays defo have the looks as a van/camper thats why i have imported myself a good base from the states as you can still get a good deal out there if you look...i got a '70 westy for £1300, running (just had tune up at vw shop) with original interior and pop up etc..

but as for pick-ups i think this is where splits win, they just have the edge, picked myself a single cab up earlier this year before pick up prices went barmy and am restoring to be my buisness truck..

TBH I could just not warrent spending £7K - £8K on a "TOY " which would only really be used on weekends . :?
Though Splits are nice I could not afford one so bought what my cash would get me and waddya know it`s an Early 8) :D
Glad i got it now as i think I got me a bargain hope prices don`t go too mad or else they will no longer be " The peoples car "

Dont think they'll ever keep up with splits for prices. I would say the average price for a really good restored e.b is £8500 roughly.I could be wrong but if previous inflation is anythin to go by, i reckon that will almost double within 10 years!

my pick up cost the pricely sum of £3250 march this year so i guess i got it at a good price as i have seen them going for silly money now..
