Hello everyone;;

I need to get some new window, door, engine bay rubbers.. Well the whole set basically.. But have heard a few scare stories from un-happy buyers. :| .
So can anyone recommend any suppliers, for the best fit, and ease of fitting.

Hiya Lee,

There is some pretty shoddy stuff out there so you do have to be careful. The problem is further complicated by the fact that some of this less than desireable rubber is being sold by folks with pretty good reputations. You REALLY do have to be careful.

In a nutshell, this is what I have found..............stay the Hell away from anything that is aftermarket. We have some big-time vendors (like WCM for instance) selling Brazillian aftermarket repops and the stuff stinks like a dead skunk on a summer highway. Instead go for genuine VW parts. You can go two ways on this, Brazillian or German. The Brazillian seals are good quality and fit reasonably well. Their cost is also pretty reasonable. German seals are top notch in every aspect including price.

I'm running Brazillian VW seals in my front doors and I'm quite happy with them.

Isn't funny your fist 2 responses are from 2 guys in California, but I agree West Coast Metric's don't fit that well , I can always find genuine VW ones at the samba and from the busdepot.

Ah, Pasadena. Perfectly understandable assumption. I'm in Portland.

Hah! Thanks, but no thanks! Not that we have anyone capable in office either. But at least we aren't zillions deep in the financial hole.

I used C&C seals and found them really good. The front windsceen one fitted a treat!!
You have to be careful when they say 'Genuine VW' cos they're most often Genuine VW Brazilian Sh#*e... Which I found out myself!! After market German made ones are best.

Hello Lee, good to see you on earlybay!, don't be tempted to buy a cheap rubber kit (just kamper, ebay, durex etc), I have tried cheap rubbers ;) and am now using only Status seals recomended by Rich, they are expensive but fit, dont stink and dont leave a black residue when it rains (all the time), the whole kit for your bus will be about £500, Im doing them a few at a time worst ones first, and I don't use washing up liquid when fitting them as its full of salt and will help rust your bus out, I use spray clear grease, string and a big rubber mallet. Don't be scared give it a good beating, and if you order from status you get 10% earlybay discount too, see ya soon mate http://www.status-vw.co.uk/shop/index.html?target=dept_3.html&lang=en-gb" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
