I have a '72 cross over and want to put opening windows in the side......

...are the rear side windows of a early and late bay the same? :?

So can I put 1/4 lts in all four of my side windows??? :?

How about the Brazil sliders in all four ??? :?

Anybody know of any for sale :D

The early/late bay windows are the same glass and opening, the only different windows available are for panelvans with a shallow aperature.

You can put quarters in three of the four windows as an opening quarter the same side as the sliding door will catch the door and they are prone to rust out anyway. Why not go for a westy or devon style louvered windows in the middle and have 1 opening quarter at the back.

The you can pick up the opening quarters for around £40 each but the replacement rubbers for them are something like £45 that doesnt include the 3/4 glass and its rubber!

All in for the quarter light, a new rubber (as rust free quarters rubbers will invariably have perished due to coming from a dry climate), the rear glass and its rubber will run into the guts of £120... x3  . its expensive.

you can get westy/devon style louvered windows complete for the middle for £50 which should give you more than enough air and keep cool and keep the middle rears as they are.

I haven't seen a vent window on the rear on the sliding doors side. Except on the door itself that is. Is there possibility for it to collide with the door?

You could put a sliding glass in the rear adjacent the sliding door if you need four opening windows.....or better still for symmetry two sliding windows and two opening quarters will work out a damn sight cheaper too as Johnny said the rubbers a fairly costly for vent wings....

Despite everyone else not being that keen on them, I've got the 1/4light windows on 3 of the 4 side windows on my van, and I'm looking for another (another 2, as one of mine is rotten)

I like the look of em. I intend to just be careful with the sliding door / quarterlight hitting issues...

i have a quarter light in my sliding door as well theres no problem with it, but quarter light in the rear window on the sliding door side would have issues, the door smashing into it, because of the way it opens.

Yeah I have 3 for mine and no plans for the 4th its not necessarily yourself thats gonna open the slider and 1/4 at the same time and even if it was you the risk of forgetting to close it just isnt worth it IMO....

You could put a tiny reed switch onto the opening 1/4 light behind sliding door, wired to a shotbolt on the the sliding door track.
So when the window is open the reed switch breaks sending power to the shotbolt preventing the door from opening.

you can get VW manu middle sliding windows complete with rubbers for about £75 - I got mine from JK but I know Megabug had them as well

thanks for this...

.....louvre window (danbury) is what i am trying to get rid of....I have 3 fixed and 1 louvre at the mo.....

.......I would like the 1/4 lights in 3 of the windows but the cost is high....

....so sliders it may well be..

.....can the 1/4 light frames be repaired or is it a case of rusty so bin 'em??

I have a couple rusted out and they should be repairable cost permitting, I dont see why you cant find any one to knock up new of these as they are a real simple design.
They all seem to go exactly the same way, so when I refit the replacements I have I'll be paying a lot of attention to rust prevention....

Putting 4 opening 1/4s in mine, the opening 1/4 in the sliding door has a stop bracket fitted, just need 3 more of the buggers.

Made one for mine out of two tops, lots of messing as the hole falls in slighty the wrong place(cut good slotted bit out of another kippered one) you also have to a dent in the the bottom for pivot screw.Thought i'd save some cash but to be honest it's easier to buy a good one. Will post a pic ofrepaired one tomorrow.
