Sliding door track-cover wedge-strip thing. Desperation.

Hopefully someone out there can help.
I can't even explain what the part is very well.

The strip of metal that's maybe 12mm x 3mm in section and runs the length of the sliding door track. It has pressed bumps along it, or might actually be slightly wavy.

It sits in the channel strip that is welded to the side of the bus and wedges the track cover against the rubber gasket.

There's a smallish screw at the front end that you tighten to make it push on the track cover.

Anyway, mine's rusted and broken into unusability (but surprisingly the cover and the channel are not too bad)

Does anyone know what the part is actually called so I can search for one? Or better yet, know if anyone sells them, or has one spare? Or a part-number?

Or a photo (and dimensions) of one in good condition so I could make one?

I've tried the websites of the usual suspects, but couldn't find it.

I think it's number 19 below (from ratwell)

Thanks for reading!!

Not sure what it is called but would try someone like FBI in Swansea for the part, good luck...

Part number is 211 843 818.
The parts book calls it "Clamping strip- cover".

211-843-818 on VWH and JK throws up the weld-to-the-bus channel that the covers sit in.

Schofield call the weld-on channel 214-843-818, but no sign of 211-843-818 on there.

Did the track cover fixing arrangement change in 1972? I wonder if later bus track covers are secured differently, given the complete absence of anything for sale that looks like mine :(

I have not seen them for sale new but I guess you could probably find one from one of the sellers doing used parts and body cuts. It's not a part one would sell a lot of since its pretty well protected and pretty thick, hence doesent often rust away.

It's just a thick piece of wiggly metal with a threaded bit on the end. Doing up the screw pulls it along till the wiggly bits lock the track cover in place.

If all else fails its an easy enough part to make.

No, I have neither found one nor made one.

Not sure which is more likely :?

Note that you only need two on a twin slider. On a single slider the non-sliding door cover is screwed on from below, because there's no track in the way.

Did anyone find any of these clamping strips? (mine has totally fell apart with tinworm!)
....or is it better to replace the early version with the later style v shaped holder welded on in place of the older style??

I was fortunate enough to be offered a mint one from another EarlyBay member.
I wasn't aware that the later ones were different, but that would have been lower down my list of options than making one.

I've got one lying around waiting to be fitted if anyone wants a drawing of it- shouldn't be hard to make with a MIG and a grinder...

If you wanted to send one to me, I will look into getting them manufactured for future EB's

I will obviously supply you with a beer token of some description.

Cheers

Alex

Hi Happy stamps

If you could trace round it and measure the thickness, width and full length that"d be great.
Will pm my address :D

Update- drawing is finished, but I want to compare it to the actual part and make sure everything's hunky dory before I release it properly. I hope nobody's too inconvenienced by that! Here's a taster to show I ain't lyin'.

Oh, and to settle the part number debate, 211 843 818 IS the clamping strip, as shown on pages 340 and 342 of the parts book:

http://www.jerseylooker.com/FicheDump/EarlyBaywindow/EarlyBaywindowPartsBook.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The U-shaped strip referenced earlier doesn't appear in the parts manual at all as far as I can see.
