stock 16tp setup to include oil bath filter and pipework from cylinder 2 for heat,so totally stock with thermostat and flaps.

now i recently picked up an exchange longblock from SSE (steve etrong engines) built it up as said and have been out twice now to start the RUN IN period and the last time van was sluggish on start up and tick over like dirty fuel/running on 3 or maybe carb icing????
not sure whether it is but after a couple of miles or maybe 3-5 miles it ran ok.
timing set 7.5btdc svda hose plugged as book says leads are tight and right way round, new plugs gapped, new silicone booties for manifold,so basically everything is set as manual states so is it carb icing and just put up with it or should i investigate??
i started van tonight and again it is sluggish and you can see the deflection in the fan belt on tick over so as above.............
is it carb icing?? did not let van run i switched it off after 2mins.

off out in it tomorrow hopefully to run up some more miles.

regards.

Is your manifold visibly frozen below the carb on the manifold ?
If you've got hot air feed to the air filter and clear heat risers both sides on manifold you shouldn't have manifold icing.
Have you checked the mixture and choke settings on the carb ? I'd say its possibly that is your problem.

new manifold 900 miles ago, stock exhaust with heat exchangers.
carb was setup on last engine and ran very sweet, did not alter any settings when taken off,put straight on new lump, has new choke element 150miles ago.
throttle cable set with 1-2mm play +- with butty's setup.

Also ,is the choke working as it should ( dropping down the stepped arm on the carb)?

As already posted. Carb icing is easy to see on the manifold below the carb. If its not iced up there then it won't be on the inside either.

If there is no icing and the problem only manifests itself when the engine is cold it would indicate the carb and/or choke are not correctly set or the choke isn't working at all.

deffo not carb icing.....
i got out yesterday very early like before 6.30 and the van was rough(trying to get van out of garage when it was running rough and shut the door asap as not to wake missus   ).
anyway by the time i drove for 5 mins it was fine.
so today i reset the choke and it started better but still not right so i reset the whole carb from scratch and hopefully all ok.
changed the oil at 140 miles of run in period so will see later in the week if it is sorted.

thanks for the wisdom fellas!!
