Hi everybody.
Anyone got experience of buying abroad unseen and shipping to blighty?
I'm trying to get a vague idea of duty and vat charges, lots and LOTS of pretty EB's for sale in the US at the moment, credit crunch anyone?

get as many pics as you can, talk to the sellers on the phone, try to get a local contact to check it out for you if possible, ive had 3 over this year, 2 from the same guy, 3rd was one i located on the net(not thesamba) and got my contact to check out, collect and deliver to the port for me

Fees

Price of bus - Whatever u pay. Example $5000 dollars @ $2 to the £2500
Shipping - Approx £1500 all in

Duty £50 fixed fee for private individuals
17.5% VAT on price of bus, and also the cost of the shipping

2500 plus 1500 plus £50 = £4050 plus VAT = £4759

There is not MOT standard in the USA, so factor in at least £1000 once it here for brakes, engine etc etc

Hardest part is finding a seller you feel you can trust, pictures never tell the full story.

I got mine from Portugal , got an easyjet flight over and looked at it for myself admitadly USA is a bit further , but there is still a few in Europe to be had 8)

If anyone needs/finds a bus in the So Cal area, Britt who is registered on here as 'Roadcow' provides a service where he will inspect the bus and get it to the docks for you.

Im not sure how much is costs but i think it was $250, you wont find anyone with as much knowledge as Britt, he was the guy in the 'bullet bus' featured in UltraVW going up the Shasta mountain run and is doing the boneville flats 36hp speed run this year. He's California based with roots in Antrim. You could give him a shout if you need help on a bus in California. hes one of the best

Thanks alot for your tips, information gratefully received.
I'm on the hunt for a EB panel (small rear lights) seems to be alot of nice restored ones around suddenly at 10grand money, I'm really after something to leave my own mark on, 1st major project so we'll see!
Just sorted big, dry barn to keep it in.......gotta love those farmers!
Thanks again.
