Any ideas of what there is to do on Anglesey?

I am spending 3 nights here with my little one and my wife, and we are looking for stuff to do.

Especially if (when) it rains.

you know its the only holiday I've been on where we experienced crime. Went there when I was about 12 and someone threw a brick through the back of my parents fiesta (f reg!! and nearly new at the time) and nicked all our holiday clothes & gear. The only thing that was recovered once the cops had caught them on the bridge was my dads penknife. Never been back there unsurprisingly. The only other times I went to wales was once on a school trip to a holiday/school sort of place in bala. The other was when I went with my dad to see one of his opencast sites. Was about 15-16 we went to the pub and everyone was speaking english until we ordered at which point the entire pub looked at us and then started speaking welsh.

Had a great time at dubs at the castle but try and go there as little as possible now.

No offense to any welsh but when theres a group of welsh us english really don't seem to be wanted around.

I've always enjoyed Wales and we go now and again, though didnt much enjoy Anglesey (granted we were confined to Barracks as the locals were bricking brit cars at the time and they were easily the worst barracks I've stayed in) :lol:

I used to live there and when i left i promised myself i would never return!

Horrible place and worse people. (My experience only, so sorry if i offend anyone)

Hope this helps.

I am an Englishman who lived / went to school there from 1981 to 1989 (when I moved to Manchester for uni) and agree that some of the locals can be a little hostile to the English at first. Language was and still is a big issue in these parts as it is pretty much the last stronghold of the Welsh Language in the country (the country of Wales that is). Personally I found that a little effort to learn some basic Welsh goes a hell of a long way (as I have also found when travelling in many other countries).

Anyway, slight rant over! I reckon that Anglesey has the second best beach in the country that is Newborough / Niwbwrch (second in my opinion to Llangenith on the Gower) - I think they may now charge a few quid to drive a mile or so through Forestry Commision land to get to it, depends on time of year (free out of season/ whether the bloke is asleep or not!) but a few quid in a great cause is well worth the panoramic views accross to Snowdonia and down the Lleyn Peninsula.

On the way to this beach you could call in at the Sea Zoo (I havent been for years but it was a cracking marine aquarium back then) http://www.angleseyseazoo.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

There is also a car / bike racing circuit there (has been used on many occasions for filming for Top Gear / Fifth Gear) - I think it is a tad pricey to get in but its supposed to be excellent for spectating as there is almost a 360 degree view. http://www.angleseycircuit.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Actually last time my Dad went to south wales he and his mate where trying to find a suitable spot for a new site and he left the Defender for 10mins when he got back a bunch of teenagers were trying to remove the wheels off it.

Cheers All

We are having a great time here, lovely island and really friendly locals so far? :p

Thanks for all of your ideas??????

Haven't found any surf yet but the beach is 50yrds, I will post some pics when I get back.....as long as I still have my wheels! :lol:

Great Italian restaurant in Caernafon - fantastic place to visit( on the mainland).

Hi Johnny, Thanks again.

The van is still at the garage and my bro is picking it up tomorrow. The calipers looked fine according to the garage but they are replacing the seals just in case.

Fingers crossed we will be meeting up tomorrow.

All:

The rain has come and we are off down the coast tomorrow, meeting up with my brother and hopefully finding some surf.
Great day again today, found a nice castle and watched some sailing. Played on the beach with the little one. 8)

Get pissed as it always rains & bugger all to do when it does.

I know this as just come back.

When the weather is good there is no where better to go as the beaches are fantastic, however when it rains as it seems to do at the moment Anglesey especially is not geared up for in door events. I spent last Tuesday at their annual show knee deep in feckin mud.

Posting on my Bro's Login:

Back in mid Wales and staying at my Brothers tonight, off with both our families to llangennith in the morning.

Not much love on here for Anglesey, but we enjoyed it.

Don't get me wrong i really love Anglesey and never had a probem with the locals it's just the bloody weather in this country is a real pisser.

Anglesey has some of the best beaches in the UK that are never crowded but when it rains there is bugger all to do.
