Started to get the engine ready for it's replacement carb by checking the valve clearances tonight

following mr muir's guide and setting to .0006'' and 3 out of the 4 I've done so far where too tight - out of interest (and newbie question!) how will tight valves manifest themselves when running? Would it make a big difference on timing/performance or is it more to do with increased wear on the valves?

Cheers!

As the engine heats up the valve clearance will probably reduce due to differing rates of expansion (ally pushrods etc) if the gap is reduced to the point where the valve doesnt completely seat in the head then amongst other things gases can leak past the valves causing them to get "burnt" - not a situation you want to be in ;)
