after removing my beam and doing a bit of poking, i now seem to have a hole! ..

.. the question is, is it ok to repair it or is it frowned upon? ... its only about 40mm on the inside of the tower at the seam .. (its about half way up though and solid at the bottom?)

.. the rest of the beam seems solid ..

what do you think?

Can we see a picture ?

If you have given the rest of it good poke with a stout screwdriver and this is the
only bad bit then I woul give it a go. Note that they generally rust from the inside I think
so you have to be a bit brutal when 'testing' them.

Weld it ,it makes no difference ,just welded beams look a bit ugly... :?

Make sure you make it flat or you might have trouble getting it back on....

They rot from the inside out it has a hole in it your choice brutal test sounds good i'd want to replace it and not run the risk....

Thanks guys ..
I kinda wanted to hear someone say weld it .. But it is in my mind that the rust is I'm the inside .. Therefore an unknown quantity ..

But wouldn't this be true with any other second hand beam ?

I'm gonna cut the trot out this weekend which will enable me to look inside the towers and see more ..

Ill post some pics ...

Ok so i got brutal with it ... which lead to a few more holes .. which kinda made my mind up ..

new beam it is ..

My bus is a 70 with drums up front .. Is it a specific beam? or will late ones fit .. i know there seem sto be a debate about change over dates ..

I did notice mine has the servo bracket on it .. if this makes it a later beam ..

... oh and my torsion leaves had come unstacked, and one leaf had broken too .. and my ball joints are knackered ..

No , a late beam will go on ...

I used to get mine from vw relics and they leave the tortion leaves in ,next day delivery as well...

You just need to weld you servo braket on if need be,you never know your new beam might have one...

are the ball joints nackered or just the rubbers ?,you can buy the rubbers...
